I know I'm not the only one who noticed that the Ancient Aspect, despite having many similarities with Rauru, also had some differences - most prominently the tail and that the Aspect is digitigrade while Mineru and Rauru are tail-less plantigrades. So this was a result of me exploring not only how Zonai and Hylian/Sheikah mixed decendants might look, but how they might've looked like children. When it comes to the tails I decided that Mineru lost hers in a lab accident and that Rauru's is just hidden in his big floofy hair. And I thought it would be fun to have Zonai be digitigrade as kids and become more plantigrade as they age.
My headcanon is that there was a Link who was alive during Rauru and Sonia's era that just was never discovered: Soldier 404, frontline footsoldier almost single-handedly keeping the monsters at bay in his area. By the time of the war he is 15 and Rania is 5, and they first meet one year later.
Having dealt with a lot of verbal (and physical) abuse from his commanding officer, 404 now flinches if he's addressed as Link (especially if it's worth a loud voice) and prefers to be called 4-oh-4.
After the Imprisoning of the Demon King Ganondorf, 404's platoon get's relocated to closer to Castle Town. While on an errand he comes across a small moster attack and takes them out - only to learn that the newly orphaned Princess Rania was there, almost about to become monster food. She insists that he becomes her new body guard and calls him Foufou. Rania has him share her classes with her when she realises he can't read, and is at first determined that she's gonna marry him - which 404 doesn't think is a good idea considering he's a peasant that's 10 years older than her. By the time she's by age, she sees him more as an uncle and of the suitors trying to woo her she picks Kimu - a silly guy with a pure heart and who actively enjoying having 404 around nearly 24/7 (because he will not only let Rania and Kimu commit pranks, he'll help them or at least cover for them).
(Rania's name is a mix of Rauru and Sonia, but it's also an alternative spelling of the Arabic name Raniya which means "to gaze, to look intently". Kimu is a made up name and sadly I don't remember which names I based it on. I looked at so many names while trying to find a fitting one for him. Let's say it means something along the lines of "attentive kindness" or "deliberate gentleness")
