you make everything sound so simple. well not everything needs to be so complicated.

❛ i got good news, bad news, and terrible news, ❜ christine called out when the captain entered, waving him forward with a pair of half-melted tongs. ❛ and it only makes sense if you ask for the good news first, so let's start with that, kay? yeah, so. good news, your dna is compatible ❜

most used emoji?
looking at my phone, it would be 🫠, and i have no idea why that is, but that specific emoji is my go-to emoji for almost every situation. also, it just looks funny. maybe that's why i use it so much.
interview the writer
amelia metas + amelia thoughts/feelings about christopher pike.
send [ META ] + a word / phrase / person / etc and i will write a head canon around it. ┊┊⋆˚ *❀‧₊˚ always accepting
from the very beginning she always liked him, though the feelings were purely platonic as they were simply friends first. they are like minded, and many of his traits and moral compass align and match her own. his care and dedication to his crew for example is something she finds admirable. she enjoys his company, holding conversations with him. (the fact he’s also very handsome and charming certainly doesn’t hurt.)
deeper feelings come a bit later, in fact she does fight against them a little bit because she’s not naive enough to think dating a starfleet captain is easy or ideal. she’s a very smart woman and knows so long as chris is captain she will rarely if ever come first. his job will always come first. she knows better than to just jump into a relationship with him without considering all the pros and cons for herself first.
(sidebar her cat lav, who can be rather particular about people, takes an instant liking to chris which is a major green flag if you ask me.)
in the end though, the fight against growing feelings is short lived. and eventually they both realize the feelings they have for each other, but even that things are slower to solidify in terms of defining what they are, mostly for his sake. which amelia doesn’t mind, though her heart is his long before she ever voices it.
obviously there are times where it hurts, or she ends up disappointed when an evening is cut short, she can go weeks at a time without seeing him, yet she doesn’t ever hold any of that against him, that would be rather unfair of her to do. any frustration or disappointment she might feel about it is brief and fleeting. she allows herself to feel them but she doesn’t hang onto them.
his safety also is never guaranteed meaning she could lose him on any given day. this is not something she enjoys thinking about and for her own peace of mind always leans to more hopeful outcomes should anything happen. again she’s a smart woman, and understands him coming back in one piece is not something he can promise her, so she never asks him to. she also doesn’t make and doesn’t ask anyone to make a promise that cannot be kept. so instead she asks for him to try and be careful. but she can’t say how much of the time he actually is.
there’s also a lot of trust in him. part of that is that given their different positions there are things he simply cannot tell her. which doesn’t bother her, she understands why, and she’s not the sort of person who needs to be told every little thing. she wants nothing more than to stand beside him and for him to lean on her whenever needed.
though it’s not like she’s pining around for him. she has her own work, her own career, something she built entirely on her own. though she’s perfectly happy to accommodate her schedule to work with him as it’s much easier for her to be the one to do that. people might ask if all of that is fair for her, and realistically no, it’s probably not. (you can even say chris doesn’t deserve amelia). but she doesn’t really care, she doesn’t see things that way. it’s never ‘i’ve given up x,y,z. so now you have to give up something of equal’ for her.
sometimes though she does think he’s being a big dumb man, especially when he thinks he’s doing something right, by being self sacrificial. cut to when he tries to break up with her when he more or less crashes out while the enterprise is in space dock after everything with discovery. (obviously she doesn’t know that chris saw his future and the more i think about it the more i realize she probably doesn’t want to know, nor does she need to. she does however know that something happened while he was on discovery. the change in him is incredibly noticeable.) for her, it’s very sudden, and she can’t think of any reasonable reason for what he’s trying to do. however she can easily connect the dots and see the correlation that something happened on discovery and this has to do with that, even without pushing for a specific why. which she doesn't do.
amelia doesn’t like people making choices for her without giving her any sort of say in the matter. especially when it comes to relationships, so she very much digs her heels in and refuses to let him. instead she simply waits for him to return to his senses and realize she’s not going anywhere. this would be true if she did end up knowing beforehand about chris’ fate, that would change very little for her.
(another side bar, in her opinion, the whole thing about someone knowing / seeing their future in some way is tricky, and she doesn’t think that someone's future can be sealed into stone like that. there’s just way too many factors and moving pieces that all have to line up perfectly for that to happen.)
there is only so much he can give her in return however. while she certainly hopes for more in terms of stability as marriage and children for example are something she would like to have, it’s not anything she needs in order to feel happy and content and fulfilled. (these are things that do come later given our aus but that’s also a different post.) i should point out that her entire source of happiness and sense of fulfillment isn’t tied to chris. however she is a creature of love, so she does crave it. she’s perfectly happy to simply be with him and will ask for nothing more than that.
all of the drawbacks are worth it for her. she loves him, to the point of almost complete selflessness. there’s a lot that isn’t easy, there’s a lot that she gives and doesn’t receive in return. she may get the short end of the stick sometimes, yet she’s happy to be the one to take it. amelia doesn’t ever love half way. she loves with her whole heart, her whole being. once her heart is given she will not be the one to take it back. it’s just who she is.
