EC is short for Exploratory Colony 2321. They’re a member of an alien race I made way back when called the Anrodol; they exclusively grow on a planet that’s a designated dumping ground for the extremely hazardous, “please do not keep this anywhere on the planet” waste from a dozen or so other worlds.

They’re actually a collection of bacteria, not a ‘spore cloud.’ There’s billions of them per square foot on trashpit planet, and when they work together, they can do some interesting things. They started out by hijacking and partially reanimating a corpse in order to communicate with explorers, but apparently the crew of the Cheeky Venus actually put together a more specialized suit for them to live in so they don’t just have a leaky dead guy walking around the ship.

There’s like 1000 mindless drones for every 1 actually sapient Anrodol and inside the body there’s a population of billions. so the majority of the ‘citizens’ are just like doing menial stuff around the body. Head Command (the actual council of ruling figures that lives in EC’s head) makes all the big decisions and communicates with the rest of the crew, while the rest of the population just kinda. Lives out their lives, working jobs, sometimes contributing to doing things like moving the whole body around. That body’s just like a whole entire planet for them.

think of it kinda like Osmosis Jones, except with weird little starfish/jellyfish critters instead of humanoids. and also there is no Frank.
