You tried to have a serious conversation with them, and rather then listening or validating you, they opened their mouth impossibly wide and fell unconscious  A tiny version of themselves then crawled out of their mouth and, over six hours, ate the original while repeatedly hissing “now this flesh belongs to me”. It grew with each bite. When it reached the original’s size, it (they?) climbed into the blood-stained, tattered clothing and carried on the conversation as if nothing had happened. The only indication anything had changed was the picked-clean bones (“animals, from the butchers”, they say, and sometimes you can almost believe them) and their voice. It is identical to the person they used to be, the one you once loved, in every way. But whenever they speak you know in your bones…it is not theirs. And this person, whatever they (it?) is, is not them.
