Summary: When A-Yuan gets sick and Wen Qing doesn't have the supplies she needs to properly treat him, Wei Wuxian can only think of one place to go for help.
My comments: A perfectly lovely story about how much wwx is willing to give up for the health and safety of others, especially A-Yuan. His sickness is scary, and wwx has to take him to Gusu for hope of timely treatment. (The Wens let him go, of course, and Granny comments that really, he's already A-Yuan's father.)
In Cloud Recesses, lwj drops everything to care for his... not-family, and wwx is exhausted and stressed enough to let him. Lan Qiren says they can stay for one week, which is extended when A-Yuan continues to have trouble breathing. Lan Xichen ships it.
Eventually, in tears, wwx finally asks if he can leave his child to be raised as a Lan by the sect, because it will give him his best life. An alternative is suggested: bring all the Wens to Gusu.
This is why I call this a feel-good fic, because of all the caretaking and adoration even in such a stressful time:
Excerpt: "Do you want me to go?" Lan Wangji asks.
"What I want doesn't matter," Wei Wuxian replies. "Not if we're keeping you from doing your duties."
"Do you want me to go?" Lan Wangji repeats.
Wei Wuxian frowns. Lan Wangji watches him take a breath and look away. "No. But I know that's selfish and you don't have to indulge me."
Literally all Lan Wangji wants in this life is to indulge Wei Ying.
"I am where I want to be," Lan Wangji says after a moment of thought.
canon divergence, post yiling date, sick child, (the illness never gets worse than it is in the first 1k), back to gusu, caretaking, sickfic, kid fic, hair brushing, pining, insecure wei wuxian, doting lan wangji, lan xichen ships it, fluff, domestic, light angst, love confessions, first kiss, first time, getting together, fix it, golden core reveal, family feels, everyone lives/nobody dies, mostly, feel good fic, fic for a bad day, exhaustion, comfort fic, wens at gusu, favorite, @fleurdeliser

Re: that Greedfall article, the author, Heather Alexandra, who’s a trans woman, started getting horrific abuse on twitter almost IMMEDIATELY after that article posted because ~gamers are trash. I can’t even imagine what it would have been like if she’d taken an even harder stance against it.
Well, that was perhaps poorly worded of me. I do not begrudge the necessity of someone with a public-facing career to be careful with their words, and I have certainly seen enough trash from ~gamers~ to know it happens.
But I’m upset that she has to be careful because no one else was talking about it at all. Not terribly surprised, unfortunately, but it’s a horrifying setting and most people I’ve seen either didn’t comment on it at all or just sort of shrugged like eh, it’s not great, but what are you going to do?
Not buy it? Comment that it’s gross? Don’t just let something like that slide because no one’s making the style of RPG you like! I mean, I’m not saying I haven’t played games with terrible shit in them, but when the entire framework of the game is based on a racist/colonialist foundation? Why should anyone subject themselves to that?
