I will NEVER FORGET Stephen Siller was off duty when the twin towers were struck. He drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but it had already been closed for security purposes. Determined to carry out his duty, he strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave his life saving others. He was never seen again. The annual Tunnel to Towers run commemorates his selfless commitment to human life. His was one of thousands of lives lost on this unforgettable day. I will NEVER FORGET I will never forget, but I will also never be able to fully describe, the experience of that day. The first plane struck, I saw a second in the distance. I turned to my right to tell my colleague it was a terrorist attack. She shook her head and asked, “what are you talking about?” I immediately ran to get to my then 1-year-old daughter. I will never forget the emotions, the sights, smells and sounds. The fear, the horror, the uncertainty, the willpower to live and the unity of our nation. Now, 20 years later, my daughter shared in wearing our uniform. She was only a baby on this day. It feels like it was just yesterday.
