Hey, are the whale bones from Onwards real? I'm visiting the SF area in a few weeks and figured I'd check out some of the scenery from that fic in my spare time.

They are real! Although I’m not really sure how many bones they’ve got now since there were some restoration efforts that just took place (I believe you can go all the way out to the lighthouse now!!)

The place is called the Point Reyes Lighthouse Visitor Center and I recommend having a little climb on the cypress trees on the way to the lighthouse!!

When an elderly lady falls abs breaks her femur, what is the likelihood of her contracting pneumonia and dying? My grandmother fell and I'm just trying to have a decent understanding of what happens next - I don't think I'll get to meet her Dr and hear from them.

Sorry to hear about your grandma. How well she does really depends on her age, her health before she broke her femur, and her ability to participate in rehab.

I’ve seen numbers as high as 50% mortality rate in the first 6 months after injury in people over 65 [1]. I think that estimate is probably a bit high, but there is definitely a risk there.  Of course those deaths aren’t just from pneumonia. They’re also things like blood clots, wound infections, heart attacks, etc. The chances of death from any cause after a traumatic hip fracture increases with increasing age and with addition of other co-morbidities (other chronic or acute illnesses) [2]. I’m not sure about numbers for fractures farther down on the femur. These numbers are for hip (femoral head/neck) fractures.

Have you had any dreams you believe to be religious in nature?

Some, but I don’t tend to believe anything I hear in dreams right off the bat. I personally prefer to receive my actually informative numinous experiences via meditation and that sort of thing. I can’t trust what my brain says when I’m asleep!
