I was a competitive gymnast when I was young (alongside the dancing, swimming, kickboxing, and fucking everything else my parents made me do), and I actually adored it. I was learning this new link into a flip and my coach was helping me by showing me how my legs had to be. I was pretty pliable so generally he’d just shove my leg to the position it needed to be in, but I don’t know what the fuck was up on that day (perhaps I wasn’t warmed up enough, or goodness knows), but he did so and my hip cracked so loudly pretty much everyone stopped. I initially didn’t realise how bad it hurt until I tried to perform my next move, then my leg crumpled underneath me and it began hurting like hell. I went to hospital, x-ray everything, disbelief that I’d cracked the bone of my hip joint when I was only 13, and I essentially couldn’t dance/compete/do lots of shit for 6 months...
