FanFic Rec Fridays
I’m posting about the fics I enjoy reading (almost) every Friday. In no particular order, let’s dive in, shall we?
First up we have “How to cheat your way out of academic suspension for dummies” by flipthebits. (Star Trek, Kirk/Spock, 23K, completed). The plot? “James Kirk is certain of two things: One, he is going to graduate at the end of the semester, academic suspension be damned. Two, he is going to get that pointy-eared bastard to help him do it.“ I think this fic does a really good job of capturing Jim and Spock at the academy, and is a great enemies to friends to lovers.
Then we’ve got “Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt” by bluejbird. (Star Trek, Kirk/McCoy, 9K, completed.) In this world soulmates feel each other’s pain. This one contains a lot of angst, mutual pining, and ends on a happy note. I love it.
Next up we have “Real Slow” by surveycorpsjean. (A:tLA, Sokka/Zuko, 21K, completed). Sokka visits his friend, the Firelord, Zuko. Zuko is not handling being Firelord all that well, so Sokka decides to lend a hand. They end up falling in love. D’awww! It’s a great fic.
And finally we have “Soulmates and where to find them” by Lumeleo. (The Hobbit, Bilbo/Thorin, 16K, completed). In this edition, soulmates are found different by all the races of Middle Earth. What ensues when The Company travels to Erebor to reclaim a mountain is misunderstandings, accidental pregnancies, and multiple marriages when all things are said and done. Look, I love humorous cultural misunderstandings, and throw in an oopsie baby and I’m reading it.
