↺   What is the one thing he misses most about Almyra??

i know you're still working on a meta for almyra, but !! is there anything from almyra that claude misses while in fodlan? did he ever hold onto any possessions from almyra when he was younger, but kept them hidden on purpose?

i am combining the two as they are similar enough ! & since my meta is going to focus primarily on almyra’s flora, fauna & culture, these are perfect, thank you <3

there are plenty of small things that claude misses about almyra. it took him a lot of time to get used to fódlan’s cuisine, for example. he is used to significantly less fish & misses the traditional pastries his mom made, or the vine leaves he used to help her prepare for hours. on the other hand he gets to eat fruit that does not grow in almyra & is therefore willing to forgive them their flavorless meat.

what he does miss dearly is the attitude of the people. he thinks the people of fódlan stiff & humorless, those of the empire & kingdom especially. very rarely has he been addressed as your highness & it was normal to play hide & seek with the children living in the city that had no association to the royal blood line & fódlan’s distinction between noble & commoner was real cultural shock for him. he tried to imagine edelgard or dimitri in that position, playing catch with a fisherman’s children, & failed spectacularly. to take it one step further, he is not used to crests being of such high importance. prior to leaving almyra for the alliance, he knew of their existence, but not of fódlan’s obsession with them.

AS FOR A KEEPSAKE HE KEPT ! were anyone to snoop through his room, they would find a number of items that might give away his nationality if not his status. there is a traditionally embroidered pillow he had owned since he was a toddler, a few notebooks written in almyran & the common tongue from when he first began to learn it as a second language, letters exchanged with friends from home that are already falling apart with how often he folded & unfolded them, a necklace with a wyvern’s tooth he received from his father when he reached his fourteenth year. in general, claude collects a lot of items that may hold no material value, but remind him of occasions he would not want to forget.
