Floating Points Ensemble "Wire"
I rediscovered Floating Points Ensemble's sublime 2010 soul-jazz single "Post Suite" last week on a mix CD I made for the car. Since then, though, Sam Shepherd has gone back to producing dance music as simply Floating Points, and it's good, but not the same thing. Today I was thrilled to see a new Floating Points Ensemble release, and here it is. The first three and a half minutes are a pleasant downtempo groove, but things really get going--not in an energetic way, but in an ethereal, spiritual way--after that long intro. Another masterpiece, and I'm only slightly disappointed that it's an old recording just seeing the light of day and not the harbinger of a full album.
