Sunday Craft: Make A Floating Whale
This craft requires parental assistance in certain sections
This Sunday we want you to make something that you can also show in your science class because it is also a cool way to learn how some things float in water!
This is what you need:
Large Corks
A sharp blade (for the parent to use)
3” x 3” piece of cardboard
Pliers (for the parent to use)
Lightweight wire(for the parent to use)
1/8” lead fishing weights(for the parent to use)
Crayon colours
Image and Craft Courtesy
This is what you need to do:
Trace the pattern of the whale on the cardboard and cut it out. You can trace the pattern from here.
Color it with crayons on both sides and keep it ready.
Ask an adult to cut a ½” deep cut into the smaller side of the cork. Or it can also be done on the longer side of the cork as shown in (b) above.
Push the tab of the whale into the cut that was made into the cork.
Now ask an adult to add two fishing weights with the help of pliers into the lightweight wire.
The ends of the wire should be pushed on the opposite sides of the cork or the whale(as shown)
Check if the Floating Whale balances or add more weights as needed.
Place the ready toy into the bathtub and watch it float. Have fun!
