Be Water Aware Spending time around rivers and lakes can be dangerous, water can and does kill. If you get into difficulty in the water, remember - Float to Live. Floating minimises your risk of gasping uncontrollably and breathing in water, which can quickly lead to drowning. Float to Live: Try and Stay calm and float if you get into difficulty in cold water, follow these steps: * Try not to panic * Float on your back * Don't struggle. Your clothes will have air in them that will help you float easier * After 60 to 90 seconds, the cold water shock will pass and you will be able to breath more easily, so you can swim to safety #BeWaterAware #FloatToLive #RespectTheWater #StaySafe https://www.cumbria.gov.uk/cumbriafire/safetyoutdoors/watersafety.asp https://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/things-to-do/water/swimming (at River Eden, Cumbria) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSM7TicDcfF/?utm_medium=tumblr
Floating
"I don't mind what the weather is doing, I am just happy to be in the water. When the water is calm and flat it is easy to float and relax. When the waves are high it is exhilarating to dive through or jump over."
~ Animation by Lily Mae Kroese.
I found a series of videos from the ‘Float To Live’ campaign, where they interviewed many people about their personal experiences with water based incidents or stories. These videos gave me insight to how quickly things can escalate when you're in the water and thus the importance of being aware and having resourceful knowledge to know what to do in these events.
The campaigns catch phrase “float to live” is simple, catchy and sticks in your head. I think I will need to do something like this in my own campaign to really reinforce an idea or key message.
