Kelantan deputy MB: Flood gallery will be source of reference in future
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22, 2015:
The Kelantan government is to build a gallery to showcase documents and commemorate the devastating floods that hit the state recently.
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the gallery would be a source of reference in the future.
“The state government has agreed to build a gallery for the floods to reflect on the disaster, just like how Indonesia had one for the tsunami.
“In Kelantan, there are hardly any documents or records about floods, not even on the massive one in 1967. There are some, but the collection is not complete.
“Therefore, we will start with the recent floods and collect as many documents as we can, sort them out and make a complete gallery as a source of reference for the future,” he said after appearing as a panellist in a forum at the Karangkraf headquarters in Shah Alam today.
The Kelantan government has also agreed to set up a committee to carry out studies on the recent disaster.
“These studies will find the root cause of the flood and the factors that contributed to it being that devastating. We need to learn from this tragedy.
“We must also look at preventive measures to ensure we are ready to face such disasters in the future.
“We cannot fully prevent such an occurrence as it is caused by rain. No one can stop rain, not even the most advanced technology.”
