When I potted Marigold seeds in my backyard, I expected cute little mounds of flowers that would serve as a natural mosquito barrier through summer. Instead, my Marigolds went wild during Florida's recent round of monsoonal rains, spreading out into a long-stalk, beautiful mess of flowers. The Lantana plant nearby was so excited, it extended itself over to Marigold land. (you can see their little pinks behind this orange beauty). Due to the rains, today is the first day in many weeks I was able to sit on my porch and gaze at this wonderous development. Butterflies and bumble bees have been feasting on the flowers all morning. I am so delighted by this and other backyard outcomes this year, that I decided to release myself from the burden of finding someone to cut it all back into neatness, which I never liked anyway. I'll just do some minimal trimming myself. PS I haven't seen a mosquito all summer. 😄 #marigolds #florida means #flowerland #flowersinurbia #flowers #flora #floral #garden #wildgarden #backyard #wild #nature #naturephotography #naturelovers https://www.instagram.com/p/CinMISArrp-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Chapter 1: Returning Home
Narrated by Sonya.
Narrator: I feel the warm breeze carrying the scent of flowers as I exit the Flowerland Station into the sunny street.
Narrator: It’s been more than ten years, and it looked a lot different from when I was going to school.
Narrator: The whole town had undergone renovation. There were no longer food stalls and wandering crowds lining the premises.
Narrator: Rows of decorated shops lined the modern streets, their glass panes reflected the hustling passersby.
Narrator: Never imagined after all these years I would be returning as a designer with my own brand.
Narrator: I’ve been negotiating a partnership with a clothing store in Flowerland through mail for the past several months.
Narrator: It was a business specializing in unique and quality designs.
Narrator: To an unaffiliated designer, it’s an excellent platform to launch a brand in Apple Federation.
Narrator: Today,I brought my designs from Ninir personally just to nail down the specifics.
Narrator: According to the address, I was looking for the Apple Apparel Group.
Narrator: They sounded impressive on paper, but I didn’t see any professional building or high-rise.
Sonya: Hello, would you mind pointing me to the Apple Apparel Group?
Girl: You mean Helz’s store? Follow the road and turn on the first street.
Narrator: The owner who kept in correspondence all this time was named Helz.
Narrator: I thank the girls and kept going. I heard them whispering behind me.
Girl A: Wow, there’s an air of sophistication around her!
Girl B: I love her outfit. I have to find out where to get it.
Girl A: And her red orange hair is both unique and down-to-earth.
Narrator: I checked out my reflection in the shop windows ahead.
Narrator: Who could have thought I hated my conspicuous red orange hair when I was young!
Narrator: The me back then was introverted, awkward, and I didn’t have friends since we kept moving due to my father’s business.
Narrator: It wasn’t until I moved to Flowerland when I was 13 and got to know Luna and Egg Tart.
Narrator: Without their encouragements and the win...
Narrator: I don’t think I would ever have the motivation to become a fashion designer, much less starting my own brand.
Choose either “Who are they?” or “Prizes?”
If “who,” ...
You: Who are Luna and Egg Tart?
Sonya: They were my schoolmates in Flowerland and my two best friends.
If “prizes,” ...
You: What was it that you won?
Sonya: It was a fashion design contest put on by the amusement park and the school. My design won the grand prize.
---
Narrator: The Apple Independence War started a few years after I moved back to Ninir again, and I lost touch with them.
Narrator: But my two years in Flowerland, especially at the amusement park where we had so much fun, remained clear in my mind.
Narrator: The sudden, drenching rainstorms in summer afternoons,
Narrator: ...the delightful rides on the carousel, the bright and colorful lights...
Narrator: And the two friends riding the carousel horses, laughing all the while.
Narrator: Will Luna and Egg Tart recognize me if they see me now?
Narrator: Other than business negotiations, I had another purpose for the trip.
Narrator: Not too long ago, I saw on Moments the amusement park in Flowerland planned to reopen.
Narrator: I moved up the schedule so I wouldn’t miss that.
Narrator: Other than revisiting a special spot, I guess I was hoping for something else, too.
When Luna and Egg Tart waved goodbye to me, they shouted, “We’ll meet again!”
Narrator: It has stayed with me all this time.
