And some of us CAN'T stop moving. Because that is also autism. To be unable to stop, unable to be small, unable to be quiet, unable to not talk to people, unable to stop socialising with other people, unable to LEARN, because it's a disability a large part of which centres on social function.

The autism in movies and shows is so often centered on how autism is ALLOWED to manifest in specifically white men who are of a certain culture and upbringing. And so is the autism depicted in the DSM.

But the autism in the tags above is also a privileged autism that is from a certain upbringing and demographic, and has a certain level of social function that not all autistic people have, and it's important to note that.

Autism has many different aspects. None of them are palatable by the allistic society of any culture. That's kind of the whole THING about autism. Even the mildest form of it you are still stuck in a minefield. Some people have the ability to learn enough to feel their way through it more or less without blowing up. Some people cannot stop running no matter how many mines they step on.

Some people aren't even aware it's a minefield at all, and always blame the other person. That's where that "unshakeable confidence" comes from. Those features mentioned in the screenshot outlined as the media depiction are not entirely wrong; I have met people like that! They were all white men. There's a reason for that. It's because society LETS white men break a LOT more social rules than anyone else is allowed to break. So they don't ever learn the mines are there, because whenever one blows up they think someone else stepped on it, and are never ever corrected.

But that shouldn't be the only kind of autistic person we see in stories. They are overrepresented just like white men are overrepresented in everything else.

blorbofication to me is when you love a character in such a laser focus way that you somewhat detach them from the narrative from which they are inserted and treat them in a way roughly similar to how you'd treat an oc for which you still have no story and just like to put them in situations just for fun. which there's nothing wrong with btw, it's just that it can easily lead to people forgetting the character engine in a narrative and not just a barbie doll

Got a bit carried away with a card drafts. The idea with tarot was hunting me for a while. The thing is fitting with Veronica's character pretty good by me. I think she could have an incomplete deck (nobody knows that it's not full), but she would have used it more pragmatically. Like not in a usual magic-prediction way, but more like in giving-people-hope way. And that's why there would be no cards with negative meaning in it.

Also Rich's habit of striking that scared kitten ahhh pose every time the bad guys show up makes me giggle

2026 May 26th

Really enjoyed the game REPLACED, so mandatory fan art time! This is the protagonist, Reach. I love squinting at sprites and heavily stylized art to try and piece together character designs, it's one of the greatest joys of indie game fan art. Chose to interpret some of the shading on the promotional art as a scar because scars are cool and I like drawing them.

Also, you give me a story about an artificial intelligence that somehow finds itself in a human body and I give them the quintessential human experience: a stomach ache.

Big fan of the idea of a nigh-super soldier getting taken out by stomach issues of all things. Food poisoning spares no man.

Been a long time since I've been in a fandom so heckin small that I can keep refreshing the Tumblr and AO3 tags and barely find anything. This friggin game is going to make me write again isn't it. I'm a visual artist, not a writer, I'm not built for this!! I have a 3D modeling project I should be working on!!

I love the tiny fandom experience of recognizing usernames cross-site though. It's like recognizing strangers from your daily commute. Hello fellow tag-crawlers.

Time taken on the portrait was 8 hours 7 minutes. Tummy hurty was 7 hours 10 minutes. Kinda surprised the 2nd one was so fast or that the portrait was so slow. I guess the portrait did pave the way for me figuring out how to draw this dude. I don't have much experience drawing older folks.
