"Papa, I'm looking for the ingredients for this new spell that I found in the book! It requires mugworth, incense, and updog as a few of the ingredients," :^ )
“New spell in which book? I’ve not heard of anything that require those.”
"Papa, can you reach the updog for me?" :^ )
“Uh, sure...” Shit, which one is updog? He can’t look stupid in front of his daughter. Process of elimination says it must be one of the top two shelves, since those are the only ones Lily wouldn’t be able to reach. Dammit, Heinwald, why don’t you label anything? He snatches the first jar off the shelf that catches his eye and passes it to her.
“H-Here.”
pulls papa into a great big bear hug!
As sad as it would be to admit out loud, it took Heinwald a moment to realize what Lily was doing.
While naturally cold to the touch, even the healthy parts of his body did not feel the chill in her hold. Despite everything, it felt...warm.
It took another moment for him to assess just how to respond, given the height discrepancy. He settled for stroking her hair, pressing her head lightly against himself to reciprocate the gesture.
@flowersought
Heinwald was not so proud to deny when he didn’t anticipate something, and having the little ice princess ask for employment was...beyond unexpected.
An assistant he already had, but one of any magical aptitude? The only unnatural quality Curran possessed was his ability butcher phrases and to consume days worth of rations at a time. The possibilities were endless....as well as the potential for catastrophe.
“I’ve never taken an apprentice before, and I’ve been told my explanations can be rather difficult to follow. Are you certain you wouldn’t rather study under another? That Xania woman seems rather trustworthy a teacher.”

"Gee Lily isn’t it past your bedtime!”
anyways Curran's getting a gigantic black forest gateau cake with a fondant of his trusty axe atop the cake. he's also getting his oversized knitted scarf early because Lily's worried that he's always cold and a big hug for when he walks in through the door.
Entering a room and being attacked with a bear hug was far from the first thing Curran had expected today. He returns it, of course, but he has to wrack his brain a bit to figure out what exactly would warrant it. (Father’s Day isn’t really the sort of event he’s ever celebrated, after all.) Is it some kind of Chrystalian holiday…?
Well, whatever it was, he appreciated the gesture. He thanks Lily with another hug and drapes the scarf around his neck, tossing one end over his shoulder and turning to Lily for her appraisal. How cozy! And then his eyes fall on the cake resting atop the table.
…And holy shit, that cake though!
“This looks amazing, Lily! Did you make that whole thing on your own? Decorations and everything?” Dear Ilia, he almost feels guilty for wanting to eat something she clearly worked so hard on. (But, oh man, it looked so good…) “We just might have to bend the rules and have cake for supper tonight!”
a stack of cupcakes sat on a porcelain plate, each one carefully frosted and a fondant spellbook (with titles of Heinwald's favorite books) perched upon the top of every single cupcake. next to that laid a linen wrapped package containing several rare books related to elemental magic (which Lily has acquired through completely legitimate means and will be borrowing from you sometime in the future.) finally, a big bear huge for Heinwald for when he walks through the door!
By now, Heinwald had become accustomed to the sudden bursts of affection from his princess, instinctively bracing himself every time he encountered her for a moment in the event of a rushing hug, but that did not make them any less special. He inhaled deeply as his eyes closed, basking in the fleeting moment, a hand placed gently on the back of the girl’s head to hug in return.
When he willed them open again, he noticed something...odd on his desk.
“What’s this then?” He mused with a hum, moving his hand on top of her head to gently edge her away to investigate. A new recipe, perhaps? Or just practicing her decorating?
He couldn’t help but chortle at the little books, picking one up to admire further, “I think I’ll need some sharper glasses for these.”
The real matter of interest, however, was the package. It certainly wasn’t his birthday (...right?), and while little Lily was not above random bouts of generosity, they were mostly in the form of confections.
Heinwald unwrapped carefully, almost suspiciously, until his eyes scanned the topmost cover.
“Lilybelle!” The book of sweets was quickly replaced onto the plate in exchange for shuffling through the tomes, picking one up and leafing through it’s pages. Real. They were real! Not some shoddy black market forgery, but...but-
His mouth twitched enough to start three different sentences before his smile could be contained to truly speak, “Where-where on earth did you get these? They’re- I’ve been pestering people for years trying t-”
He was forgetting something important.
Heinwald settled them back onto the table, dropping to his knee to usher her into another, tight hug, “Thank you, Lily- I can’t believe...How did you find them?”
