This is largely inspired by @cheeseanonioncrisps post about humans being like space fae. I did obviously add and change a lot of it of course.
basic history:
100 humans were taken from the Roman Empire at around 100 AD by an alien species that often illegally smuggled creatures and sold them for pets, slaves, ect. The ship of smugglers were caught by on another planet where such acts were illegal.
One of the large governments of the dominant species [further called FIS1] on this planet set up a base for humans to live since they didn’t know of the home planet [further called HLP1] was since that wasn’t recorded. They intended to take care of the species and provide them a happy life till the population snuffed itself out through low life expectancy. They didn’t take into account that for these time woman and men would reproduce young and reproduce many times. This combined with better medicine (even without a full understanding of humans) and sanitation allowed for the population to triple its size in 50 Earth years.
With a larger population FIS1 could study humans to improve their lives and medicine, further Improving life expectancy, lowering mortality rate, improving education, and tailoring food to needed nutritional values.
After the population exceed the capacity that they were held in humans were slowly introduced to the overall population. HLP1 was a planet that had become akin to a space airport leading to a melting pot of species and culture, many of which 4-5 times larger than humans. Humans being so small compared to others became very helpful to maintenance team, and construction of smaller things, and interaction with smaller species.
Biological differences:
While still human there are defiantly differences between humans on Earth and these human and depending on how far forward your story goes differences may be larger or may even be considered so different that they couldn’t produce offspring with humans. I am going with that Earth Humans and these Humans could breed and produce fertile offspring like how a pizzly bears (polar/grizzly bear hybrid) can still breed. I am building this with the assumption that it is 2018 so take this into consideration when using this. HLP1 has 50% stronger gravity so humans would have many things would happen, in some ways humans could adapt to it, in other ways they need assistance.
Because of gravity their spine would compress down more making them shorter and compressing their organs making their waists rounder. Due to nutrients they would grow more meaning that their average height would be about 5′ 4″ (170cm). Their weight would be much greater; 201-243 lb (91.17-110.22 kg). Due to gravity they would have greater muscle mass to hold themselves up, larger heart, and larger lungs to feed greater oxygen needs for the larger muscles and heart. To store the larger heart and lungs the rib cage would be larger to contain the larger organs. Their bones are twice as dense than an average human making their bones less likely to break but heavier.
Due to the increase of mass they are much bulkier and especially thicker around the waist and stomach. As a general rule their jaws are squarer, noses smaller and more sloped, and wider eyes.Their hair is thinner and straighter and most often kept short.
Culture:
Culture varies due to the large amount of immigration and emigration of a wide variety of species from many planets. Along with just general changes from region to region or even city to city means that things two humans will act often extremely differently more so than humans today on Earth. I’ll lay some flat guidelines for some people or some jobs but as always feel free to change or add for your stories.
Since the original humans were from the Roman Empire most humans speak a modified version of Latin. Their are many different forms because Latin mixed with other alien languages but even if two people speak different forms of Latin they can still get slightly basic idea of what is being said. Some know a diplomatic language widely used on HLP1 to interact with other species.
Due to HLP1 generally being a galactic space port most humans work in some form of dealing with intergalactic travel. Many deal with maintenance for species larger than them or work as ambassadors since their small size makes gives a rather friendly appearance to most.
It is very common for humans to stow away on ships made for larger species. These stowaways, often refereed to as wall rats, are often viewed as good luck due most humans often doing their best to earn their keep in small ways. They’ll make small repairs before they are noticed, clean work spaces, finish/spell check reports, and other small things. When the ship is under siege they can often sneak onto enemy ships and cut wires or other things to cause chaos or disable important hings like the airlocks or weapons.
Most of HLP1′s buildings and places are built with both large and small in mind making crossing rooms a chore or the risk of being crushed under foot a large deal. Do to this humans deviced many ways to help them get around from small go carts to gloves and shoes that help them climb walls to hitching rides on the backs of others.
