hi there, I was wondering if you could answer the following question: in volume 3's cover art (my favourite cover, by the way!!!), there is a purple splotch on Vanitas' left shoulder that seems to echo that of the blood on his right shoulder (Jeanne's mark). The purple splotch seems to be the same shade as the chain of Vanitas' book, as well as Noe's eyes and body outside of the frame. Would it be a stretch to wonder if it's foreshadowing of Noe possibly biting Vanitas?
Hello! I don't think that reading is a stretch at all!
I've written about the same theory multiple times, back when I first got into VnC. One of those posts was my first real VnC meta post, actually :).
Like you said, the purple splotch on Vanitas's neck matches with the red one on the other side, and that one pretty clearly represents Jeanne's mark. But that's not all! This illustration also very prominently features the mark Vanitas got from Luna on his wrist. It is very much The Marks Illustration overall, which makes the presence of that purple splotch conspicuous as hell.
