Upthrust
SO. I have a test next week on upthrust and flotation. PLEASE TELL ME IF I'M GOING WRONG.

UPTHURST
The upward force exerted on a body by the liquid in which it is submerged is called the upthrust.
The upthrust of a liquid is equal to the weight of the volume of liquid displaced by the submerged solid. (Above stated is the Archimedes' Principle)
Imagine pushing an airtight sealed box into a bucket of water,we find that the upthrust increases as the body is forced into the water (since a larger volume of the liquid is being displaced therefore, more weight is acting upwards) and stays constant once the body is fully submerged in the liquid as the maximum volume that can be occupied/displaced as been attained once fully submerged.
Hence, we can say that the upthrust of a liquid depends upon the volume of the solid and the density of the liquid in which the solid is submerged. ('Density' because the weight is equal to mass x acceleration due to gravity, therefore, density is taken into consideration as volume x density = mass,)
The acceleration due to gravity is not taken into consideration it stays constant on most parts of the earth and is subjective to where we stand.
Therefore: Upthrust = volume x density x acc. due to gravity (g)
The SI unit of upthrust is newton (N) (since volume x density = mass and mass into g = force)
