you & me;
At some point during the night, amidst textbooks & lengthy conversations & worldly ideas, the two of them had fallen asleep in close quarters, the nature of their company remaining quiet & innocent throughout the span of the night. It was completely unintended, yet a rather pleasant accident that neither of them would find any discomfort in; their togetherness was much too natural & easy for that.
You and me, we belong together Just like a breath needs the air
Son though, there is a gentle crinkling at the edges of silence, not much more than a tug at its frayed threads yet it remains more than enough to cause a stir within their messy pool of linens & splayed limbs. Although it is early morning & the world is quiet ( sleepy, lazy & wholly nonthreatening ), she is uneasy between these sheets. Shifting relentlessly in a semi-wakeful state, her hands sift through a sea of cotton in search of the warmth she’s missing, the one she’s so used to having close, the one that softens her armored heart. She isn’t quite sure why she yearns for this sudden closeness so strongly, but uncertainty doesn’t distract her from goal.
You and me we've got two minds that think as one And our hearts march to the same beat
It’s close; this warmth she desires is very close & her subconscious is set on seeking it out.
Eventually, her palm finds another ( one of familiarity & comfort ) & her form grows still as a smile crests the curve of her lips. This is what she was searching for; the anchor that keeps her grounded, the light that illuminates her path. Never before has something come so innately to her, so naturally & without friction, but this is so easy & warm & simple that, even in her first hazy moments of the day where consciousness is still dulled by sleep, she feels herself drawn to him.
You and me we're searching for the same light I fear no thing as long as you're with me
He does not wake, & she says nothing, instead allowing her grip to tighten almost as though the spaces between his fingers lay right where hers fit perfectly, the grain of his skin running parallel to hers. She sighs, & soaks in the moment with eyes half-lidded, the sun catching in her vision as morning breaks. She is content here, she thinks, before slipping back into a warm, comfortable sleep.
