NTPC Korba will haul 20 lakh tonnes of ash 185 km to fill a mine — a Rs 182 crore logistics play
NTPC Korba has put out a tender to move 20 lakh tonnes of pond and fly ash into abandoned coal mine voids — and it plans to haul it 185 km, not the "within 100 km" its own title claims. The 2,600 MW station is doing this because Indian plants must utilise their ash or wear it as an environmental liability. Cost: Rs 182.15 crore in the BOQ — though the GeM summary oddly says Rs 82 crore, and the EMD is Rs 50 lakh in one document and Rs 20 lakh in another. Diesel is indexed on just 25% of the rate, so the contractor eats most fuel spikes.
