Hear me out as a headcannon for flyboy Imagine they avators are drunk at the Hard Deck and reader goes to pick up Jake and they see her just start chanting either Reader's name or like Jake's girl. Does it make sense no but the idea made me giggle.
heheh 😌 this is cute <3
Context: Flyboy (but readable without) - set post engagement but before the Epilogue.
They had all gone out drinking because it was a Friday night - the Dagger squad + the whole trainee crew.
Of course they had invited you, it was unspoken at this point that you were always welcome.
You had declined, because they had all been working so hard lately, and deserved to unwind together as a whole big bunch. Jake obviously tried his best to convince you to come along.
“But everyone loves you” / “It isn’t a proper outing unless you are there” - he had sulked, because when does Jake not want you with him?
You both settled on you picking him after - because he was definitely going to get sloshed.
Instead, you had rounded up Penny and Amelia and had gone out for dinner with them both 😌 something cute and trendy.
The three of you get to The Hard Deck after dinner, Amelia darts away to the back office where she settles herself in and away from the crowd, Penny follows to get her comfortable, and once the both of them duck away and you come into view - you hear it.
Javy’s voice is the first one to ring out - “MRS SERESINNNN”. His words are so slurred - you know he is drunk.
It causes basically all the damn heads in the place to turn to you.
The Naval Aviators all BURST out into a symphony of cheers and yells of hellos. You barely have time to shout a hi or take a step forward when it starts, the fists slamming on the table and the non stop chanting of “Hangman’s girl”, except it kinda goes Hang-mans-girl interspersed with the banging of fists. You don’t need to look at the table LITTERED with bottles and glasses to know that everyone is almost gone.
It makes you groan, and you have to fight the urge to dart back outside. Instead you manage to locate Jake who is sitting among the crowd at the table. His has a loose tendril falling over his forehead, his cheeks flushed pink from alcohol, green eyes glazed, and a smug, wide lazily smile is on his face. Jake is drunk and you know it.
He isn’t chanting, just leaning back in the chair, legs manspread confidently out as he watches you.
You manage to pick your way across to him, and the chantjng! does! not! stop! until you reach him.
“Hi,” you say, and all he does is slip his hand into yours and go “hello beautiful” AND THE TABLE GOES WILD WITH WOLF WHISTLES. The dagger squad all clearly drunk (Bob has lost his glasses to the top of Fanboy’s head at this point) catcall the loudest.
“Ready to go home?” You ask, and he squeezes your hand, before slurring “take me home gorgeous.”
Drunk Jake becomes extra cheesy sometimes, clearly hehe >:)
“Ok c’mon big guy,” you tug his hand gently and Jake manages to stand, surprisingly steady and not stumbling, but you slip your arm around his waist anyway - you are skilled by now, at taking care of drunk Jake Seresin, I mean the number of times his man has showed up drunk at your door during college, or gone out with you and got piss drunk.
“BIG GUY,” the wider group has caught on and started throwing suggestive looks and waggling their eyebrows at you - children.
“I am, a big guy,” is what you hear Jake say, leering openly at you, his innuendo thick and you just sigh, before rolling your eyes, “aren’t I baby?”
The group breaks into a hurricane of catcalls and whoops again; and they also begin to chant Hang-mans-girl. All you can do is sigh extra loud and long suffering as you try to tug Jake towards the door.
He exits, letting himself be guided by you, but not before raising a hand and waving himself out like he is royalty.
Can u imagine winding down with Jake after his game??? It'd be just cuddles. CUDDLES EVERYWHEREEEE
D I AM UNWELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Context: Flyboy - college Flyboy
Most post game rituals involve Jake, and by association, you going out with the team - it is usually dinner, and then drinks / karaoke / or if the team was particularly energetic and feeling it, to the club.
The game today had been one of those games - tiring, challenging, one the boys really had to fight for. They had won, of course - and the explosion post win was massive. It had you screaming in the stands with the crowd, the the boys roaring in the field. You catch Jake’s eye as he is in the middle of the celebrating field on group - he is there, but mentally, same with every game - Jake is looking for you.
You know he is tired - you can see it from his eyes. Heck, Jake played a stellar game - but he played hard today, putting in 150% into every run, every play.
You hang around outside the locker rooms with some of the player’s girlfriends (although you aren’t one, really) - and when they slowly start to trickle out after the debrief and shower, Jake finds you right away.
“Mmmf,” he kinda just slings an arm around you, and makes that sound. You can smell the scent of his soap and shampoo mixing together as you slide an arm around his waist, patting his side.
“Heck of a game Jakey.”
Can’t lose when I have my lucky charm there,” he squeezes your arm, also squeezing you tighter against him.
“Just dinner, I’m tired.” He turns his head and mutters into your hair, soft enough that only you can hear. The rest are still boisterous, riding off the game - they had all played hard, but Jake had played the hardest - because he would have taken it the hardest if they lost.
“Ok,” you nod and Jake absently kisses the top of your hair in thanks, too tired to overthink it.
You grab dinner with the rest - burgers, and Jake manages to keep himself joking and bantering along with the rest.
“Aw c’mon Seresin, won’t be the same if you both don’t come for drinks.”
Jake is going to protest but you open your mouth to save him, “nah, we’re going back.”
“Aww c’mon,” you get cries from the group, but you just shake your head and grab Jake’s hand, “sorry guys, this guy is mine tonight,” and you drag him away shouting goodbye.
“Yours tonight?” Jake is amused, as you drag him away. He links his fingers with yours and holds firm, not letting you pull away.
“You mean thank you?” You snort, put not bothering to unlink your fingers with him - it was a losing battle given how much stronger he was than you. “I got us out of there in the easiest way possible.”
“Thank you sweetheart,” Jake laughs, and you pull him back to your apartment instead of his frat house, because you know, and he knows, he is more likely to get a more uninterrupted rest at your place.
You make him throw his gear into the washer before anything, and steer him to the bathroom in your room. You use the one outside, and you both shower off. Jake uses one of the many sets of clean clothes he has stored in your room, and you both just end up flopping down on the couch and turning on the tv. Jake in grey sweats and a dark t, and you in an oversized sweatshirt and shorts.
Jake is just tired, and he doesn’t bother to hide it at this point, sinking back into the couch. You drop down beside him, and he extends an arm to surround you with it. You don’t protest because of how tired he is and you just let him, snuggling back into his body.
Jake rests his face against the side of your head as you both mindlessly watch the sitcom playing on television.
“You played good today,” you tell him again as you absently fiddle with them hem of your sweatshirt, tucked in next to Jake. All he says in “mmmmm” while rubbing his cheek agains your hair in acknowledgement. He isn’t being rude though, he just is being himself - the quieter Jake who doesn’t have to say anything because he knows that it is okay between you both.
Somehow though, somehow - you end up falling asleep first (as usual) and Jake notices the moment you start to slump even more in his arms, your body moving gently up and down with sleep. As exhausted as he is, lifts you up and carries you to bed, setting you down on the inside before crawling in after you.
He knows he probably shouldn’t, but when you roll over to press yourself against him in your sleep, Jake throws an arm over you and presses the softest kiss to your forehead, before dozing straight off to sleep, feeling exhausted but absolutely content. 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Ok but all I can think of now is years later him finding out you still have the bear and being amazed. Like an “I really wanted to kiss you that night” “I really wanted you to” kind of thing.
And them dancing?? Maybe jake surprising you at your wedding with that being your first/last dance song (you know like how some couples will have a last dance at the end when everyone is gone and it’s just you???)
GAH I am LIVING for all this flyboy!
🥺🥺🥺🥺 babyyyyy I could tear thinking about this.
Context: Flyboy; linked to this ask
He would find the bear when you are finally moving in with him in Lemoore where he is stationed (so post Flyboy, but before the epilogue).
He’ll be helping you pull things out of boxes - you would both get a new place together, because the one he had been living in was for one, when he pulls out the bear.
He has won you numerous things and given you numerous things over the years, but this bear - he hasn’t seen it since that day, and assumed you had lost it or something; he never asked because of the almost kiss and the situation.
“You still have this,” he’ll just be staring at it in his hands, and you’ll look up from the box you are sifting through. You catch sight of the bear and just laugh softly, “yeah of course I do.”
“Do you remember that night?” He will ask, still staring at the bear and you just dust off your hands and leaning back against the couch which you are standing beside.
“Yeah..”
“I really wanted to kiss you that night.” He strokes a thumb across the bear, “but mom came out and you were so flustered, and moping about some douche-whats-his-face”. He’ll say it with a little snort at the end because >:((
“I wanted you to.”
Jake’s head is whipping around, and he is just staring at you at this moment, wondering what if….. I mean after the confession (that car scene) before that you both had been pining for soooo long, you would think he wouldn’t be surprised; but he always is. Because just how long, and how many times, did you both spend missing each other?
Idiots in love.
He sets the bear down on the table, carefully, and you are in his arms before you know it.
“What are you doing?” You are giggling a bit because he basically dashed at you, and is all serious, and is now dragging you towards the door all while you are encased in a hug - basically you both are walking like idiots in the most impractical fashion.
“I want a do over,” he manages to unlock the door and you both step out onto the patio, and Jake cups your face just like he did that night.
“You are beautiful you know,” he says in a somewhat replay of that night and he kisses you.
You are smiling as you kiss him back, the biggest, stupidest, sappiest smile because 😌😌😌😌
“You’re a stupid sap Seresin.”
“I’m your stupid sap.”
Ahhhhhhhhh 🥺 LAST DANCE. LAST. DANCE. TO IRIS BY THE GOO GOO DOLLS.
You are both exhausted - because the wedding was just so much fun, and so much happy, but it was exhausting. Your guests have mostly trickled off, with the exception of Jake’s family and yours and the dagger squad + Penny and Amelia, who are all lodging at Grandma Doris’ huge ranch - because it is sprawling and she insisted. They are all gathered around the remaining tables in the huge makeshift open air gazeebo thing that was constructed in her back garden for the wedding. Imagine lots of flowers, lights ✨
The air is cool, crisp and nice, and there is just faint music from the sound system and chatter. You have sat down in a corner, and are toeing off your heels after bidding the last guests goodbye, because your feet in heels all day - killer.
When you feel a hand slipping into your, gently tugging you up into a stand.
“Come with me?”
“Lemme put on my shoes.”
“Leave them” - Jake knows your feet are hurting.
You leave your shoes and you twine your hands with his. He has shed his jacket, and his white shirt is now rolled up to his elbows, collar unbuttoned. He isn’t drunk, and neither are you - the dinner had been beautiful and everyone had a decent amount to drink but not a crazy amount (the crazy had been done two days ago at the pre-wedding party >:))
He is pulling you out to the make shift dance floor, and then you hear it, Iris. And Jake is pulling you into his arms, and swaying you to the music - your unplanned last dance (but planned by Jake)
“Remember this?”
“The fair.”
“Mhm. When we missed each other for the ten millionth time.”
And you’ll just reach out to run a hand through his hair, pushing it back, before cupping his face. Your new wedding ring cool against his cheek, and tell him “I’m glad we missed each other so many times.”
Jake just goes 🤨?
“Because if we didn’t, all this wouldn’t have ended up so perfect.”
And he just, melts 🫠 - the song, the feel of your wedding band against his cheek, the way your hair is slightly mussed from the festivities, the way you are padding around barefoot outside with him under the stars and twinkling lights - he realises you are right, it is all just perfect.
Obvi - you get pictures from that last dance - snapped by your families and the dagger squad + penny and amelia. They actually turn out amazing - you print and hang them up; it makes Jake’s phone wallpaper, and Doris had one hanging in her house.
Okay we’ve had so much good college flyboy Jake and it is making my little heart so full 💛
But hear me out:
Naval academy and top gun flyboy Jake headcannons with you

All of the fluffy sleepy days and the navy hoodies and PEAK COYOTE SUPPORT 🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️ all of it
🍯
Hello 🍯 anon my love!!!
Context: Flyboy - warning, general navy / TOPGUN inaccuracies (as usual because I am sure Flyboy content is full of them - but for the love of fanfic, squint). I did a quick google and I understand you go from college > OCS > flight school, so adopting this timeline loosely but again inaccuracies warning stands. Ksdjasdasjdsa I love love love peak coyote support pre-Flyboy but asjdkalsdka since I (stupidly) said he met you only during Flyboy, I WILL ADD POST-FLYBOY TO THIS BECAUSE.
Pre-Flyboy
You visit Jake of course, once he gets into flight school, the first time just over a weekend. He stays off-base, so bunking with him is not an issue. You arrive Friday afternoon and let yourself in with the key Jake had hidden under the doormat for you. He hates that he can’t be at the airport himself to get you, but he can’t get away. He is dropping you texts at every moment he can however (have you arrived / do you know how to get to my place / the key is under the mat / tell me when you reach my place / make yourself at home / i’m leaving now, see you in a bit)
You are happily nestled on the couch in his apartment with a show playing in the background when you hear the lock turn. You have made yourself thoroughly at home in the few hours you have been in his place - showered (you smell of his shower gel right now), put on a pair of tights and paired it with one of his Navy hoodies which smells just like him. You look up just as the door bursts open and find yourself staring at Jake. He must have showered before he came home - because he is in a tshirt and sweats.
You can barely get your hello out of your mouth -Jake is kicking the door shut and lifting you off the couch into a big bear hug. It makes you giggle, and squeal (slightly), as he picks you up in a crushing embrace. You find yourself wrapping your hands and legs around him, afraid that you would fall if you don’t hold on tight.
“Hi,” you mutter, your voice muffled, into his shoulder, because he is squeezing you sooooo tightly.
“Took you long enough to get your ass over here,” he finally sets you down, plonking you right back on the couch and stares down at you, taking you in. You take allllll of him in as well, and both of you have the same silly grin on your face. You hadn’t seen him in a few months, and by god you missed him. Sure you texted, called, facetimed - because what was life without Jake? But you had both been busy, and living so far apart meant it was harder to see each other irl now.
“Should I move here?” You tease, both of you knowing that wasn’t possible for now, but Jake responds the same way he always does with a resounding “yes”.
“I’m bringing you to dinner,” he says, while finally flopping down on the couch next to you. Your thigh is pressed against his, his shoulder slightly behind your body and you leaning just that slight bit against him, “the rest want to meet you.”
“You better only have been saying nice things.”
“Told them how absolutely awful you are.”
It makes you laugh, and your laughter makes Jake’s eyes crinkle with delight. You take him in, short hair, tanned skinned, healthy glow to him - life in the Navy suited him well.
“Do I have to change,” you make a face, “I just got comfy.”
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” he says reaching out to rub your knee. Jake had noticed you were in his hoodie the moment he had got back, but it didn’t bother him - because it was nothing new by now, you finding your way into his clothes, and he kinda liked it if he were being honest.
You both end up changing anyway - Jake swapping his sweats for jeans, and you swapping your attire for jeans and a top.
He takes you to a restaurant where his friends from flight school have chosen for dinner, it is nothing fancy - but small, cute, family run, and smells delightful. The group is well acquainted with the owners because it has become somewhat of a weekly haunt. You are welcomed immediately to the fold.
“So this is Seresin’s girl, we’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Yeah, you look better in the flesh than the photo of you in his locker.” It makes you glance at Jake who tells you nonchalantly “you are next to the photo of Doris”, before going “shut up O’Leary” - because, because, because, you look good to Jake all the time hehe >:)
“He gets grumpy when he doesn’t get to facetime you,” the group cheers to that, among snickers. To Jake’s credit, he is leaning back, not looking an inch bothered.
“Remember the time we had no access to good internet for a week because we were all stuck on base that week and the internet was acting up.”
It all makes you chuckle, and you elbow Jake gently, “can’t do without me huh Seresin.”
He rolls his eyes, but affectionately, as he throws a hand across the back of your chair and watches fondly as you get along with his the group. Jake just lets himself enjoy the side of you gelling with them effortless, jumping in every now and then only to throw a barb or snarky Jake like comment or retort at someone. Everyone however, can see how Jake looks at you, and that spark that he has in his eyes - the same one he has when he gets to fly.
Jake settles the bill that night for the group, because he is in such a good mood - and he is really doing it for you, and when the owner of the restaurant is ringing him up she just chuckles and says “you got yourself a gorgeous girlfriend there.”
“She’s not my girlfriend,” Jake says, somewhat wistfully as he turns back to see you engaged in conversation with the group who basically adore you, because really - who would not?
“Well, that’s hard to believe, she looks at you the same way you look at her.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah, like you are the only one that exists in her world,” the owner gives Jake a kind smile as she glances over to her husband who is serving a group of customers, “same way by husband looks at me after all these years.”
Jake just smiles, as you look up to meet his eyes across the restaurant, your head tilting to a side, asking silently if everything was alright.
“Yeah well, my world wouldn’t be much without her.”
You both part ways with the group after dinner, weaselling your way out of drinks at the bar they are heading to. Because honestly, you are just nicely wined up at the moment, and don’t want to spend Saturday recovering from a hangover.
You and Jake take a stroll back, retracing your stroll there, because it isn’t too far from where he lives. You walk in a comfortable silence, elbows and arms brushing.
“You ok Seresin?” You ask anyway, because there seems to be something hanging around him. You glance at him, and Jake stops. It makes you stop in mid-step as well. He turns to face you, and it forces you to look at him. You both just stand like that for a few seconds, before he finally says something.
“I’ve missed you.” Jake is never shy about saying what he feels with you. That sentence, the look in his eyes, it makes your heart do something funny, makes it leap, and flip in your chest. You know exactly what he is saying though - because you have missed him too. Jake doesn’t think he will ever get used to being so far apart from you, ever in his life - and he hates that he has to be.
“I’ve missed you too Jakey,” your voice is softer, and Jake sees your face and just knows that you get him, and you are both on the same wavelength about it. He reaches out and for the second time today you are in a bone crushing embrace. You both stand like that for a while, you aren’t sure how long. In that moment - there is genuinely nothing more in that moment but you and Jake - just pure, feelings of you and Jake. It is hard to explain, but it is just something to wholesome, innocent and all encompassing. When Jake finally pulls away and out of the hug, you somehow, find your hand in his for the rest of the stroll home - which ends up being a longer stroll, the both of you just wandering a few rounds around his block, talking about everything, nothing and anything.
You sleep in the same bed that night because Jake only has one, and he finds himself just being wide awake, with you curled up beside him in his hoodie, his mind just racing, heart thumping.
Oh and that hoodie? It disappears when you leave his apartment that weekend 😌 Jake finds out when you snap and send him a picture of you on the plane, decked in his hoodie with the caption “oops”, and it makes a warmth spread across his chest, and the silliest smile bloom across his face.
Post-Flyboy
It takes you a while to transition from New York to Lemoore, so during the time in between your official transition, you of course find yourself flying down to Jake (if he doesn’t fly up to you).
In a nice twist of events, Javy has gotten transferred to the same base.
By now, everyone and their mothers have heard about Seresins’ girl and the EPIC proposal that went down. So naturally, everyone who hasn’t already met you (you know a few, people who have been with him over the years from his squadron - Blaze, Hurricane, Crusher, Wolf, Viper and Flame) and have met them here and there, heard them over video calls, but not everyone has met you. They find out from Javy that you are coming over for a week, starting that weekend - and immediately the plans for drinks to meet you are underway.
So there you, Javy and Jake are, getting out of a cab and entering a bar. The moment you step in, your name is being shouted by the people you do know, and also by the ones you don’t. As you get closer, Javy yells out to the group to “give it up for Mrs Seresin” - and they do, hands clapping, cheering, feet stomping that makes the whole bar look over, and it just makes you groan out loud. Jake just laughs, clearly enjoying it, but he makes the point to grab your hand tight in his.
“Stop hustling my girl,” Jake says, but there is absolutely no bite behind that.
Introductions are made, drinks are doled out, and the night is off to a bang.
You get back from the toilet at some point when the guys are engaged in a hot debate about something Navy related. Jake spies you coming back and as you make your way back to the seat in between him and Javy, Jake sticks a hand out and pulls you directly sideways onto his lap. His hands go straight to your lower back, rubbing gently.
“Tired?” He asks, but he already knows. You’ve had a long week, and he can see it from the slight sway in your step, and the way you have fought back 3 yawns since the night begun. He also knew you didn’t say anything because you didn’t want to be a party pooper.
“I’m ok,” you put a hand on the side of his jaw, and Jake leans into your touch.
“We can go back anytime you know,” he says and you just shake your head, letting him know it’s fine.
“I didn’t know there was a woman in this world who could make Hangman look like that,” someone calls out, and you turn to find all faces grinning at you >:))
“Like what,” Jake raises a brow and drop your hand into your lap, but he catches it immediately with his other. You make to shift off his lap, but he doesn’t let you, choosing instead to curl you further towards him.
“Like a tame little puppy,” someone calls out and the group thunders. It makes you laugh, because it honestly isn’t malicious.
“Maybe we should change his call sign to WHIPPED, instead.” Blaze yells out, the chorus of agreement is l o u d.
“I like the sound of that,” you say teasingly, looking at Jake, but loud enough for the group’s benefit.
“The lady likes it Seresin, are you changing it or not.”
“I’ll be anything she wants me to be,” he just says, squeezing your hip, and it makes the group both cheer and fake gag in a mixture of amusement and disgust at how sickeningly sappy and whipped this top gun aviator with two confirmed air kills under his belt becomes around you.
The night goes on, and everyone, including Jake and Javy drink a whole lot The night ends somehow, with you standing behind Jake who is seated (clearly drunk, but still looking like the most handsome man on early) holding up a makeshift sign that says “WHIPPED”. Javy is obviously in that picture as well, giving a massive two thumbs up in the background.
Obviously, the team ends up calling him “whipped” because it becomes his unofficial call sign. When anyone new or junior to asks why, the naval aviators just exchange looks between each other, and would always tell the new people / juniors, to try to get a peek at the inside door of Jake’s locker the next time he opens it - because he has that “whipped” picture stuck proudly inside.
Yeah I’m sorry (but not really) - it is Monday and I don’t want to fucking work, so ya’ll get Flyboy 😌 but in HC form, because I don’t have it in me to write something proper (and despite what I say I also do need to work aksdsjds) and I need something easy and happy because I’ve been feeling slightly alfjkdbksjs so we all get Flyboy!!!
Because now although I just did future Flyboy, I can’t stop thinking about college Flyboy (again!!)
Imagine following Jake + the football team on a weekend away. They actually have just one game to play on the Friday evening - and they have the rest of Saturday and Sunday free.
It is not too far off from where you guys are, but not too near either - different city, few hours drive.
You somehow find yourself loading into the bus with the rest of the team. It is just the team + coaches + you. There is just one single seat left - so of course it is yours. Jake asks you to come, and obviously everyone wants you there - the coaches don’t even bat an eye anymore, they are used to you because everyone knows where you find Jake, very often they find you.
Your bus leaves Friday morning (it happens to be an alternate week where you don’t have class on a Friday. Jake does, because although no one believes it you don’t share all your classes, but he gets a pass because of football) - so he stays over in your apartment that night telling you “so I can haul your ass out in the morning, no way are you missing that bus”.
He arrives at your place on Thursday night, freshly showered and dragging all his gear for the game + weekend. He basically just helps himself and hops into your bed once he gets there. When you look at him, Jake just goes “what, need to sleep early for the game tomorrow” - he sees you are all packed yourself, so he just pulls you into the bed, and flicks a show on, on your laptop and forces you to watch it with him.
“Didn’t you need to sleep early?”
“Winding down for the night is part of the routine,” he shushes you and shamelessly plops his head on your shoulder, the laptop balancing on both your thighs which are side by side. You give up and oblige him - because it really isn’t going to go any other way.
By the end of the show, the positions have flipped, your head is on Jake’s shoulder instead, and you have fallen asleep. It makes him chuckle - because you always do this, always fall asleep first. He manages to tuck you into bed, and keep your laptop before setting his alarm, flicking off the light and settling into bed with you.
He flips his head to watch you as you sleep, eyes closed, chest rising and falling and it makes Jake feel at peace.
He gets up as soon as his alarm raises the next morning, hand reaching out to pull his phone towards him to silence it. As usual, you’ve somehow managed to end up wrapped around his body, your head snuggled into the crook of his neck. It makes him not want to get up, because Jake thinks he could stay like this forever. He allows himself a few more moments with you snuggled against him, before he extracts himself and goes to wash up.
He wakes you after he has washed up, the same way he does every morning - sitting on the bed, hand on your upper arm, thumb rubbing gently against your skin until you stir.
“Gotta get up darlin,” he says, and you groan in protest, raising a hand to flap at him, before that same hand drops into his lap. your fingertips manage to graze his inner thigh, and Jake just sucks in a breathe of air.
“C’mon, I’ll make coffee,” he is rewarded by your squinting your eyes open with a grumble and he stands, hand slipping into yours and pulling you into an upright position.
You are both soon heading towards the pick up point, you carrying your coffee and a small handbag, because Jake is carrying your overnight bag - he insisted. You have Jake’s hoodie on your frame - not one you stole from before, his actual hoodie of the moment, and he is just in a tshirt, you sipping coffee from a travel tumbler. You are both walking in silence because Jake is just enjoying being in your company, and you aren’t a morning person (although your mornings are better with him)
The team greets you with a cheer, the boys waaaaaay too excited for the morning, and it is all fist bumps and slaps on the back between Jake and the rest. They might greet you with a cheer but by now everyone knows to leave you alone in the morning, so you kinda just hide behind Jake sipping your coffee. He is engaged in conversation with the rest, and somehow he manages to reach for you, and snake an arm around your shoulders so that he is holding you to his side, his thumb sliding absently along your arm on the fabric of his hoodie as he continues his conversation with the rest. No one bats an eye because it is so natural.
You all get to your destination in the afternoon, check in to your accommodation (yes - of course you and Jake share a room) before it is off to their campus for a light lunch + for warm up before the afternoon game.
You are seated on the sidelines with a book in hand as the team runs drills before the game. You look up from your page, and catch Jake’s eye just as he is about to run a drill and he winks at you. It makes you roll your eyes, and you see him laugh before he sprints off.
The team is huddled up, drying off and having a debrief before they have a quick change and rest up before the actual game when you hear a bunch of giggles behind you. You find yourself looking to the bleachers to find a bunch of girls from the rival school flocked together, you manage to make out what they are saying and to no surprise - they are fangirling over the team, and over Jake (“Seresin is soooo handsome” / “I heard he is single now” / “Look at those arms, I bet he has some killer abs as well”)
It makes you roll your eyes and scoff, before turning back to your book.
Jake is changed, dry, and stretching beside you, when you catch him eyeing you. He isn’t nervous for this game, the team isn’t - it is one they are sure they will win.
“What?”
“You need a game day outfit. You aren’t even wearing school colours. As it is we are already on enemy territory.”
“Please, you know you’ll win.”
Jake ignores you and rummages through his bag to produce a clean jersey - his own, with his name and number emblazoned behind.
“Put it on.”
“Why?”
“C’mon.”
“What if you don’t have enough?”
“I do.”
“But the bathrooms are so far away.”
Jake is tugging you to the corner wall of the bleachers. He steers you against the wall, “change here, before the crowd gets here, I’ll block you.”
“Jake,” you protest but he is already caging you in, his palms pressed flat on either side of the wall behind you, and he closes his eyes. College football Jake would have been b r o a d - so he manages to block you.
Jake feels the material of your own top brush against his nose as you hoist it over your head before very quickly pulling his jersey on.
“Done,” you mumble and he finds you standing in front of him in his jersey, attempting to roll the sleeves of the garment up and tucking the bottom into your jeans.
“It’s a good look,” he picks up the top you discarded on the floor and you both walk back to the sidelines. He falls a step behind you and enjoys the way the words “SERESIN” and his numbers are blazed across your back.
You are on your feet and shouting and yelling throughout the game. They win the game, easily - but it doesn’t stop Jake from running towards you once the timer goes off and picking you up and swinging you around in excitement.
“We WON,” he yells, and you can’t help but giggle, your hands coming to rest on his shoulders, “did you see me score that last one,” he crows and places you on your feet, his hands not leaving your waist. Jake is sweaty, but it doesn’t bother you and you push hair from his eyes.
“Sure did, you were fantastic as always Jakey,” the adrenaline is also pumping in your veins and your eyes are as bright as his.
The team decides to clean up in the university changing rooms and you are mulling around in a nearby waiting area when you hear the same girls again, “did you see that girl, the one in Seresin’s jersey?” / “he went to her straight after the game” / “i thought he was single” / “she isn’t even that pretty anyway” / “wonder what he sees in her”
It makes you >:(( and you are both enraged and also slightly hurt, when you feel it, hands on your hips, sliding around from the back.
“There you are gorgeous, I was beginning to worry you ran off without me,” Jake’s voice booms out, and he throws it across the floor. It makes the girls jump and turn to stare at you both in shock and horror. They clearly hadn’t realised you were there. Jake ignores them and continues to speak to you.
“I like seeing you in my shirt,” he winks, and you hear the girls whisper to each other in hurried tones, “think it makes you even more beautiful than you usually are.”
There is something about the way he says it - but you miss it as you turn to watch the girls scamper off. Something in his eyes, something you miss - but would have told you how much Jake meant it.
“Thanks” you say to him and he is about to reply when a barrage of noise finds its way out of the changing rooms. So he shuts his mouth again.
The room had two separate beds - but somehow, each night you end up watching a show in bed and the same thing happens. You’ll fall asleep in the same bed, and end up curled around Jake each morning 😌
Friday night is spent in celebration. Saturday wandering around town with the rest of the team, taking in the sights, just having some good old boisterous innocent fun, ending with a huge team dinner and karaoke - duh. Where you end up belting out some good old upbeat pop songs with the rest of the team - something Jake wouldn’t admit, but loves to see. You with your hair down, yelling and jumping around into a microphone with a group of guys that would, like him, do mostly anything to protect you.
He hears a few guys talking about you, strangers - most likely from the rival school. “She’s pretty, should I approach her?”
“Wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Jake can’t help say as he sips from his drink without looking back at them.
“You her boyfriend or something?” The guy snorts and Jake does look back, eyes flashing dangerously and the hostility coupled with the flexing of Jake’s biceps that sre peeking out from his tshirt is enough to make the guy back off.
You are scheduled to leave on Sunday afternoon, and instead of joining the team for an all you can eat Sunday brunch, Jake says you both have plans and drags you off ok your own instead. He takes you to the cutest little cafe he has somehow managed to find, and you both have your own brunch, before walking around the town, just wandering into local shops, until it is time to go. You are both taking a slow stroll back to the accommodation where you are due to meet the rest and be picked up. You have a coffee cup in your hand, your arm slipped into the crook of Jake’s arm, holding his bicep.
I was going to make this a drabble (I still might Idk) but Flyboy thoughts that I could not get out of my head (someone entertain me pleaseee) - future Flyboy
Imagine the day your oldest daughter, who is now 17, has her first proper heartbreak.
Your kids have never kept their crushes / relationships secret from you and Jake; because I mean - how could they? Just look at the way you two behave - and how he acts around you even after so many years. Relationships / love / etc - it has all been such a norm in your household as far as your kids could remember.
Your oldest comes home sobbing, before Jake gets home (I imagine this time he would be a Captain / one star Admiral, counting the years and on a quick google search, maybe flying less - but still flying every chance he gets, because he is Jake), and you don’t see her but you follow the sobs up to her room.
You knock and enter when you hear a sniffly “come in”.
“He broke up with me,” she wails, and collapses in your arms as you settle on her bed beside her, cooing softly into her hair and rubbing her back.
It hurts for you to see her like this - but as you well know, heartbreak is a part of growing up.
“What happened?”
“He said he didn’t like me that way anymore. And that he felt different now,” she sobs, and you sigh internally while stroking her hair; you couldn’t be entirely surprised that a 17 year old boy was fickle.
You know Jake is going to be p i s s e d when he gets home, because that is his baby girl.
You hear the doorbell ring and you are slightly puzzled.
“Caleb,” you daughter mumbles between sniffles.
“Should I let him in?” You ask, Caleb was her best friend - both of them had been inseparable since young.
“I’ll go,” she says, and you nod, squeezing her one last time before she crawls out of your arms. She goes down the stairs and you follow a few steps behind, giving you enough distance but a good view of her pulling open the door to a worried face and eyes which said everything you needed to know.
“I’ll kill him,” is what Caleb greets her with and she throws herself into his arms which are already open, her sobbing starting up again. Caleb almost doesn’t notice you, but he does - because he is a good boy, and smiles and manages to say “hi Mrs Seresin” as you descend the rest of the stairs and flit past them, giving them their privacy.
They end up settling into the living room, you can hear their murmurs from your home office which is tucked in a corner at the back of the house. You text Jake, a short summary of the situation.
When Jake gets home he enters from the back of the house to avoid them, making a beeline for your office instead,
“Hi,” he greets you first in the same way he always has after coming home from work, despite the number of years and children now between you both - it doesn’t change - a soft, lingering kiss on the lips, his hand stroking the side of your jaw.
And then he goes into asking as he settles himself on the edge of your desk.
“Fucking assclown, never liked that guy,” he growls, and you cover his balled up fist with your hand. “I’ll kill him.”
It makes you chuckle, “that is exactly what Caleb said,”
“Now that kid, I like,” Jake shrugs. “Why can’t she just date him instead?”
You both decide to go check on them. Jake is about to enter the threshold of the living room, but you pull him to a stop, as you both see your daughter and Caleb sitting on the sofa, his arm around her, her head on his shoulder, drooping lightly - a sure sign that she has fallen asleep from all the crying and exhaustion. You both see Caleb turn his head to look down at her - and that look in his eyes. He wants to kiss her, and you see him think about it for a good ten seconds, before he opts for smoothing a hand across her hair.
You tug Jake away and back into your office where you both exchange a look. The sight, look, emotions - all too familiar - because that was literalllllllly you and Jake.
“Well, she might still end up dating him,” you can’t help but laugh softly.
“Maybe years later?” Jake supplies, as he reaches out to tug you towards him.
“Maybe,” you let him tug you towards him and loop your hands around his neck, fingers fiddling with the back collar of his khakis, “hopefully they won’t spend years missing each other.”
“Hopefully sooner,” Jake would relax into your touch, hands squeezing your sides. “I can confirm waiting for years for the best friend you have been so head over heels in love with is tough.”
Okay okay but what about them having a conversation after they get together about this number and if they are actually gonna have the bus load of kids Jake has always joked about wanting??

Bahahahahah >:))
You’ll bring it up one day, “so your college football number”. You ask, thumbing through your magazine. It is a quiet Sunday morning and you are both just lounging around at home, your feet in his lap.
You are soooo casual but Jake knows where it is going.
“You mean the number of kids we are going to have?”
And you just :o “Jake!”
He just laughs and winks at you, turning over to look at you from the end of the couch he is sitting on, book in hand.
“How many children do you want baby?” He asks you, smiling.
“I don’t know,” you admit, dropping your magazine in your lap as Jake shuts his book, hands massaging the bottom of your feet as you think.
“Maybe, 4?” You both had a number of siblings - so not one, or two.
You guys end up having 5 - the last one more years away from the second last than the gap between your other children (you end up having the last one when the rest of your children are 4 6 8 10)
“So not that number then?” Jake asks you with a fake pout - fake because tbh - however many children you wanted was find with him. You were the one carrying the children - so it was to Jake, your choice.
“What am I Seresin? A baby factory?”
“You could be,” he grabs your calf and basically drags you across to him.
Okay so I treated myself to some sushi, and it got me thinking!
Idk but Flyboy thot: sushi date with Jake. I just feel like it would be a cute scenario
I love that you treated yourself to some sushi 😌 I also love love love sushi, and yes this is soooo cute my god.
Context: Flyboy
Jake would bring you for sushi for date night - 100%.
I can see him going to somewhere with ~vibes~, slightly dark, slightly funky music, but bustling because it is trendy.
I can see him getting sake for you both, Idk why, but I can see that.
I feel like he would also he good with chopsticks, because c’mon we all know he is good with his hands 😌
I also feel like you would both sit at a counter, not a table, because it is just the both of you and Jake 100% loves the counter because he can be shoulder to shoulder with you, have his hand draped on the back of your chair, or on your thigh, his mouth close to your ear when he wants to say something to you.
Jake would love when you have your body sideways, one elbow on the counter propping up the side of your face as you listen to him talk, your hand on his thigh, his hand behind your chair, as you listen to him talk about something. I can see him getting distracted by the way your eyes are dancing under the lights of the restaurant, and how you are obviously looking at him with adoration.
He’ll stop talking and lean forward just to tell you “have I ever told you that you are beautiful?” - because he is a bit cheesy ALWAYS when it comes to you, but he’ll say it with a bit of an up to no good, mischievous, glint in his eyes.
“Never,” - if you joke and say never, he’ll just chuckle.
“Well you are beautiful, and I’ll tell you every single day,” and just move in to kiss your lips, cheek, jaw, neck - people around him be damned.
If you are cold from the air conditioning, he’ll shrug off his jacket (of COURSE, he has some sort of jacket, I mean sushi, date night, of course) and drape it over your shoulders. Jake obviously loves the way you look with his jacket over you, uhm hello?
On nights he is feeling extra cheeky, he might ply you with sake (but if you say no because you don’t want to drink, he won’t of course, our man is respectfully cheeky) so you get all giggly and handsy - he loves that 😌
He’ll watch himself though, because he is driving (don’t drink and drive kids).
And he’ll thoroughly enjoy holding you securely in his arms, you leaning happily into him, nuzzling his neck, hands slipping in between the gaps of the buttons in the front of his shirt, because you need to feel his skin on your fingers, as he leads you both out of the restaurant and back home.
