There’s something subtly horrifying to me about the recoms.

They aren’t allowed to die.

When they signed up to work for the RDA, did they read the fine print? The clause about how your private journal video logs could be used after your death.

Now the crystals that store their brains, their memories, their consciousnesses, their very souls are literally property of the corporation the work for. Worked for. When they were alive.

Soldiers give their lives to their countries during war, and are hailed as heroes, but the recoms don’t get that privilege. They can die, over and over again, forever. They never have to stop.

And it’s not just their minds that belong to the company, their bodies are RDA property as well. So why should they be able to make their own choices? To betray the RDA? Wasn’t that the Avatar program’s biggest flaw? Free will is a liability. Sooo….

What if Quaritch tries to betray the RDA but realizes that he literally can’t. The body that was never his own betrays him. He can be programmed to do whatever the RDA wants, and failing that, he can be piloted. Turns out the recoms were only autonomous as long as they stayed in line.

Quaritch becoming a prisoner in his own body.

Quaritch seething with rage as he’s forced to abandon his “code of honor” and kill indiscriminately.

Quaritch trying his hardest not to hurt Spider but being helpless to stop his body from lashing out with full force.

Quaritch finally realizing that there was never any honor to be won from fighting for the RDA and understanding the depth of their endless greed.

individual recom headcanons! part 1?

quaritch -> big brother of the group. usually in the middle when it comes to cuddle piles and doesn't mind being used as a pillow. he's extra soft with fike and walker

wainfleet -> can't help but love the entire squad with everything he has. it overwhelms him sometimes to the point where he feels like he needs to puke, but cuddles and head rubs and gentle praise usually helps him calm down

mansk -> absolute god at pool. prefers to play with lyle because that's the only real competition he'll ever get, but he doesn't mind playing with anyone else. he likes the company and quality time

lopez -> loves anything fluff and vanilla. midnight cuddles? yes please! non-sexual touches? wonderful! being the big spoon so he can curl around his little spoon and wrap his tail around theirs? absolutely

ja -> wide-eyed curiosity at everything. "why did you do that?" "how does the helicopter fly?" "why is my data off but yours isn't?" touches things he shouldn't and gets a gentle scolding from quaritch daily. it doesn't deter him in the slightest

fike -> baby of the group. everyone sort of dotes on him and he doesn't mind as long as it's behind closed doors. in the forests of pandora and hallways of bridgehead though, he hates it and it makes him feel babied

zdinarsik -> shares her gum if she or one of the other squad members is feeling down. she enjoys the closeness it brings and knowing that the sweetness of bubblegum is enough to make anyone scrunch their nose to avoid smiling

brown -> he has the prettiest eyes among the recoms. they all say so. they're always like glass but never black, and the bioluminescence of the forest reflects in them. the others say they never feel alone when they're with him

warren -> notices everything. z-dog's tail isn't as active as usual? "you okay?" lyle's smile is a little wobbly? big old hug and tail holding. he is a man of little words but many actions

walker -> likes to work out until her breathing's shaky and her body is buzzing. she says she likes it cuz it feels like the aftermath of an orgasm in that pleasant, fuzzy way

prager -> sleep talks! very sweet and vanilla, usually about the boys. a little gay be because he's in denial. "mm kisses?" "just cuddles" "colonel?" "i like that" etc :)

zhang -> doesn't like doing anything alone. he follows everyone around like a lost puppy if he's left to his own devices. he won't even watch a movie by himself, nor will he enjoy watching a movie with anyone else if he thinks they're bored or not enjoying it. sort of social anxietied boy
