The mean March gale snatched Algy out of the cypress bush while he was dreaming fitfully of his birthday, caught him up in its massive arms, and carried him far, far out to sea, over the huge expanse of the great Atlantic Ocean…

And when Algy woke in alarm, he could see nothing through the dense mist and sea spray but terrifying, rolling waves in all directions…

Naturally Algy began to panic, for it is a well known fact that fluffy birds, unlike some of their maritime cousins, cannot swim. But despite their soft appearance, fluffy birds can sometime be unusually brave and determined creatures, and Algy was no exception. So gathering his wits about him, and summoning as much courage as he could find under the cirumstances, Algy began to fly… and fly… and fly… on and on and on and on and on, battered constantly by the gale-force winds and driving rain, with not a trace of land in sight…
