In daily adult life these inherited from childhood threat-templates operate like biased lenses. You see a neutral signal, a colleague’s tone, a stranger’s glance, an unexpected message and the body retrieves the closest match from its childhood threat library. It does not think; it predicts. And the prediction hijacks behaviour.

You will avoid contact not because the current person is dangerous but because the old template classifies this type of situation as a precursor to harm. Action becomes pre-emptively defensive. You withdraw, over-explain, brace, anticipate betrayal, or shut down. The system is not reacting to the world but to its own internal model of the world.
