You won't see me in London unless I can't help it, but work called so I traveled down to the stinking smoke. It ended up being rather nice!
I took the overnight bus and arrived bright and early in London after a surprisingly restful night and warm, comfortable bus journey. Since even in London not many businesses open before 7am on a Sunday I decided to wander a little before heading to Wetherspoon for a veggie breakfast wrap and six lattes, big fan of the free refills! I charged my phone, planned my route, and picked up a bunch of meal deals to get me through the day before heading to the venue. The Shaw Theatre is situated near Euston Station and a simple but classy theatre with ridiculously comfortable seats! I was the first to arrive so made myself familiar with the venue and explored the maze of a backstage area, without the signage on the walls I'd still get lost even after a day of running back and forth through its long echoing halls.
The tech team, wardrobe manager, and dancers arrived and from then on everything went full steam ahead. We sow, change batteries, tape the floors, and then open the house for two shows of We Call It Ballet! Before I realised the day was over and we were loading the truck with stage equipment again. I had a nice and drizzly walk back to my bnb before falling asleep on my bed. My small, simple, but sufficient room was at ground floor level which was a big relief, I was right across from a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, and toilet, and would happily stay at 10b Pratt Street again!
The next day I'd given myself some time to catch up on work and with friends before getting on the train back north. I started the day at Caffe Nero where they had comfy seats, good coffee, WiFi and plugs, before I went to meet a friend I hadn't seen properly in years at The Living Room Club Cafe! The place quite literally looked like the way I'd want my future living room to look and had a wonderfully welcome team of staff waiting on us. We felt right at home and talked like we'd just seen each other, we've known each other for a good few years and have gone through some boy trouble which has made for some great stories. We then opened our laptops for a bit of co-working before I headed to King's Cross Station for my train back north. My plan had been to return to Wetherspoon but of course the place was packed and I absolutely did not fancy that so I ended up at Leon where I had a wonderful vegan burger and some mushroom and tomato arancini on the side! Although slightly pricy, very tasty, so well worth it.
Despite the stink of London and its mostly grumpy inhabitants, I did actually enjoy my time wandering its street which is a good thing because I'll be back in March!
