So why is it spelled AVoid? Or is that some sort of special plot information we can't hear about yet?

It's spelled AVoid because it's meant to be seen as the word "Avoid" and also the statement "A Void"; "Avoid" because Hanger is our 'protagonist' and purposefully isolates herself from society, and "A Void" because of the state the world has been put in after the cataclysm hundreds of years prior.

Microscope Sessions
