It arrived! High Wire Step by Maglena Ball. Her latest poetry collection. I'm such a fan. A quick skim through and I see her signature themes of longing and loss and her distinctive scientific vocabulary. There is a reference to Trump and the Art of the Deal, a C A Conrad inspired piece, and a sustained emphasis on imagery: "zucchini ribbons of light", "scaly bark and red mahogany", "a dappled forest of glass". There is also something new: a study on currency, money, cash, and value. I was once at a dinner party and the most beautiful woman gave me a tiny book of her poems. I carried it with me everywhere, in a purse pocket near my keys. It seemed an unguarded secret between she and me, before it was widely released. I read it again last night: Intact by Anne Walsh. Romantic, tragic, untamed, guileless.
