Soldier’s been awake for three and a half days. Willingly? Sort of. What began on a prank on his fragile paranoia, ended up leading to his own exercise in the pure stubbornness of man. The American had to prove to everyone he’s staying up of his own volition and not repressed fear.

Anyway,

Yesterday he was tired but could work through it. After all, soldiers are expected to be battle-ready at any moment. The same mental clarity isn’t coming through for Jane today, unfortunately. He’s spent the past minute barking and swinging his shovel into a wooden pole. 

“Take that, maggot! And that!!” He kicks it. “Your mother just called to inform me that she thinks you are a disappointment!!”

When the Spy had decided to walk down that particular hallway, it was merely with the intention of getting to his own room, which was down the hall. It was purely by accident that he saw. The sound of an enormous racket from the other side of the door drew his attention, and then the next thing he knew that door had blown open to reveal... feathers. Pure white feathers that grew from real flesh-and-blood wings sprouting from the Soldier’s back.

Of course, the Spy only had a moment to stare before the Soldier, whom he believed was named Pascal, had realized someone was there. If Spy had not been a spy, the resulting shouts for him to go away and forget about this strange secret might have sent him on his way. As it was, he did the opposite of Pascal’s wishes, slipping into the room before shutting the door behind him. 

“I can understand secrets, Monsieur.” He said, his expression and tone dead serious. “I can also understand what a person will do to keep those secrets. Now, I will leave you in peace, continue on my way and tell no one of this. But first I need to know whether you are going to attempt to kill me for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.” 

In his mind, this wasn’t a strange thing to ask. Many people got killed for being at the wrong place at the wrong time and witnessing the wrong event. It had almost happened to him more than once, even before he had become a spy. It was entirely within the realm of possibility that it would happen again.

“Let go of me!” barked Pascal, taking hold of one of Jane’s hands, trying to pry it off of his jacket. “Who– who even are you?! I’ve never seen you before, and what on Earth makes you think I’m a hippie?!”

Pascal knew his looks could be perceived as a little strange, but he didn’t think he appeared or acted hippie-ish. Or did “hippie” have a different definition entirely to Jane?

Plain and simple, Jane doesn’t like seeing other Soldiers excel - specifically BLU Soldiers. And more importantly? BLU Soldiers who invade his airspace and are able to calculate things. Awful. This specific RED Soldier is impulsive, so when he decides he’s going to go harass his ‘nemesis of the week’, he doesn’t think for a moment about his own personal safety and waltzes right into enemy territory!

Dumb luck is what allows Jane to find Pascal without running into trouble. Luckily, Solly lets go of the other’s jacket upon being asked who he is. Now, standing at a poor, over enthusiastic representation of military Attention. “I am a Soldier, obviously!” He states, clearly, and powerfully. “You are trying to get in the way of my WORK, much like hippies tried to get in the way of honest, moral-building WAR!”
