“What kind of sacrifice? Ritualistic human sacrifice or just sacrifice emotionally? Because there’s a span from emotional sacrifice to somewhere in between where I’d be willing to sacrifice any Knight member to get out of my contract.”

👀 what's your most meaningful tattoo and why? is it your favorite? if not, which one is it?

“Probably my ‘keep going’ tattoo. I know it can come off as cliche or tryhard, but I really need that reminder to fuck everything else and keep going from time to time. I can’t pick a favorite, but I think my most beautiful tattoos are my cherry blossom tree and fern tattoos on my shoulders, the vine bracelet, and the piano tattoo my chest.”

👀 if you had to give a relationship advice to someone, any advice, what would it be?

“Have you ever heard Nature Boy by Nat King Cole? It’s one of my favorite songs, and the line at the end of the song is “the greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return”. The original songwriter wanted to remove the “in return” because it made love seem too much of a business deal or compromise. What I mean to say is, I’d say to bask in the feeling of loving and being love. Love is amazing and painful all at once, but more than anything else, it’s miraculous and beautiful. Don’t ever forget that and take it for granted or treat it as a means to an end. Other than that? I’d tell them communication is key.”

6. what is one thing (a concept, a genre, an outfit, etc.) you would least like your company make you do?

“i’d prefer if they didn’t touch the styling. their styling is just so fucking corny, and we’d be better off dressing ourselves. but a charm concept, that’d be the bane of whatever dignity i have left. growing older by the minute, and god forbid if they give us a damn song to clap along to. it’s awful and i don’t know how anyone manages to look at themselves seriously while performing that trash.”

7. what one thing (concepts, genres, styling, frequency of comebacks, etc.) would you like to change about your current career as an idol?

“i already mentioned i think their concepts and styling are corny as fuck. if i had it my way — i’d be like decipher or some old group where bc stops giving a shit to the point we only comeback once every two years. the genre, i can manage or whatever. styling, i could do a better job styling the whole fucking group. overall, i just need to stop letting knight shit affect me.”

8. if you could be in any idol group, which one would you choose?

“unity, maybe? their rapline’s decent, above average — far superior than knight. experimental sounds don’t ever bridge corniness. though, the dances i wouldn’t want to touch. alien would be good, if half of their discography wasn’t shit. the beginnings from what i could remember were solid with the beats and flow, but afterwards it just went downhill. so, really there’s no perfect choice is there?”

9. if you could say one thing to your ceo, what would it be?

“rot in hell you son of a bitch. now, would i say that to him if given the chance? yeah, sure. but the old hag doesn’t ever show his face around after he knocked up his baby momma and decided to get hitched. so, instead — i’d just shove the two middle fingers right up his ass as he sits on gold chairs built from nothing he’s put work into.”

👀 which paths would you like to explore career wise in the future? 👀 would you rather have debuted in wish instead? 👀 what are you scared of the most when it comes to chroma?

“i’d love to get into modeling a little bit. not to brag or anything, but i have a nice face - i could shake things up in the modeling industry, you know? mc’ing and hosting would be fun too. i would say acting, but i feel like if i ever wanted to do that, it’d have to wait until i went back to japan. it’s not like there are exactly a lot of acting opportunities here in korea for me.” 

👀  would you rather have debuted in wish instead?

“that’s a hard question.. honestly, it’s not a choice of whether or not i would have rather debuted in wish or chroma, it’s just the fact that i was able to debut at all. it doesn’t matter what group i debuted in because at the end of the day, this early on in my career, i wouldn’t have any control either way. so to answer your question, i don’t care what group i debuted in, i’m just glad i debuted.” 

👀 what are you scared of the most when it comes to chroma?

“as cliché as it sounds, failure. i worked so hard to debut, over eight fucking years to be exact, and if we fail.. i don’t know what i’d do. going back to japan right now would feel like the biggest smack in the face.”

“jeonghwa’s going to be the reason i roll over even in my grave one day so there’s that. jiwon also keeps me on my toes. alice is mostly an angel; she just has a lot of energy sometimes, and suwei usually doesn’t make me worry all too much.” 

“being only with lucid for another handful of years of course. i could care less for a solo career. it’s more dimensions trying to push one on me because, for some odd reason, they believe i can be a successful one. they seem to have more faith in me than i do. anyway, i’m only still here because i have an obligation to lucid and because i like my members. if it weren’t for that, i’d probably disappear from the industry forever.” 

“i tend to like woody smells or anything that smells like home as vague as that sounds. not too big on sweet smells like vanilla or citrus though the latter can vary depending on the degree.”

👀  + YOU’RE CURRENTLY THE MAKNAE AMONG THE THREE COMPANIES, IS THAT SOMETHING THAT BOTHERS YOU? OR DO YOU ENJOY BEING PAMPERED/TREATED LIKE THE BABY? DO YOU THINK YOU FIT THE MAKNAE STEREOTYPE?

●  “I’m not gonna lie to you, being the maknae really isn’t the best position to be in the group—or hell, even in life. You see, I’m also the youngest in my family, so I’m kinda used to being overly coddled and picked on and teased. That’s not what sucks, though. If anything, I hate that I’ll probably be made up to only be the “cute” member of my group. The one who does aegyo or who acts like a baby; the one who’s clumsy and adorable; the one who needs to be protected at all costs. Do I think I fit that stereotype? Yes... I think it’s an act I can play really well because, like, I’m pretty similar to that personality-wise, but I wouldn’t only want to be seen as the baby of the group or the companies as a whole. That, and like, having everyone around you be way older than you means that you have to always be on your best behavior... which sucks sometimes. It sucks feeling like I can’t really be myself all the time.”

👀  + WHICH OF THE GOLD STAR GROUPS IS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHO IS YOUR BIAS FROM IT?

●  “While I think it’s a little bad that I immediately know my answers, I want to preface this by saying that I respect all of my company seniors and look up to all of them in their own way — that outta the way, my favorite group in Gold Star is DEFINITELY Impulse and my “bias” is Jinki! There’s lots of reasons for this, but I find myself really liking a lot of their songs, and as far as Jinki is concerned, I just... think he’s really, really hot and talented. That’s all.”

👀  + WHAT’S THE WORST JOKE SOMEONE’S EVER TOLD YOU?

●  “One of my older brothers—his name’s Taeoh—is the king of awful jokes, and if I were to just repeat all of the ones he’s ever told me, we’d be here for days and they would be all my answers. If I had to think really hard and pick just one, though, it’d be: ‘my girlfriend accused me of cheating, so I told her she’s starting to sound like my wife.’ Huuuge eye-roll, I know.”

👀 what realistically do you think you could've done to prevent element's disbandment? 👀 say your new group is more successful than element, would you resent them for it or would you allow yourself to enjoy the experience? 👀 is there something you'd like to do this year career wise you haven't been able to do so far?

“if i think with a business mind, nothing is guaranteed. no matter what anyone did, luck plays a big role in the success of every group. co-ed groups before element were successful, and we debuted under a strong company. we should have been able to make it bigger than we are --did. but it wasn’t in our cards. that doesn’t mean i don’t blame myself. if i was making the biggest move i could, i would have persuaded my family to use their money to invest in element. they said it was a financial decision, to disband us, after all.”

say your new group is more successful than element, would you resent them for it or would you allow yourself to enjoy the experience?

“i... i don’t know. i’d like to think i wouldn’t resent people who had worked hard before meeting me, and while working with me. they’re people, too. but i don’t know. this is all still so fresh. it’s only been a week. we might not have any success, especially since vive is debuting soon.”

is there something you'd like to do this year career wise you haven't been able to do so far?

“at this point, it’s difficult to think of areas the company hasn’t had me dip into. i think i’d like to write a song or choreograph for a group in the company. or wish. i’d write anything for them.”

1. what is your favorite single you’ve released?

“i’ve been fortunate enough to have had a solo career to release multiple songs. different genres here and there, and i suppose you can’t strip the fuse away from seo minjung. if i had to pick a favorite, i’d choose nobody which was the title track of my first solo-mini album. sonically, it’s very close to what i align myself with and what i find myself listening to on a day by day basis. it doesn’t get old, and it gave me the first taste of how it felt to stand on stage alone to sing a song that became a version of me.”

7. what one thing (concepts, genres, styling, frequency of comebacks, etc.) would you like to change about your current career as an idol?

“it’s no secret that i’ve been vocal about the zimzalabim comeback. as much as fans loved it, i really was not a fan of styling, and that’s not to say that i’m a fashion icon because i’m far from the streets of paris. however, features and mismatched clothing in bright shades aren’t my forte, and i’d enjoy wearing something more comfortable. it’d be nice to put on a pair of baggy pants, close to my daily casual wear — in that case, i’d be more than proud to show off dancer minjung.”

“be kinder — gentler as if you’d be with an old friend. everyone’s human, prone to emotions of ups and downs. there’s no artificial intelligence and we’re not all elon musk parading the streets of silicone valley. there’s more to the surface and personality that shines behind the scene. perhaps, that’s a lot to ask for, right? especially when we become mannequins on stage, but all i wish for is that we’re looked at as humans and not puppets.”
