I'm writing this before S2E8 drops, but Stephanie Harper's story is so fascinating to me and really outlines how the showrunners at Fallout are doing their best to keep in the spirit of the moral ambiguity of the factions and individuals in Fallout's world.

To Steph, the American occupation of Canada and their mistreatment of her countrymen is fresh in her memory. They've been keeping the timeline of the prewar flashbacks vague so they have some wiggle room for future seasons, but it couldn't have been more than a decade from when we see her escape the internment camp and when she was put under. She has no qualms killing because she "doesn't think about them as humans, but as Americans". To her, it's a fresh wound.

On the other hand, the Vault Dwellers are removed from the actual perpetrators of oppression against her friends and family by about a dozen generations. They're wary of Canadians, but that's because they've only learned from propaganda that was produced 200 years ago.

Is the child meant to pay for the sins of the father?
