Tbh I don't think that Carla Boone was nearly as much of a bitch as some people make her out to be. I mean, she's presumably around Boone's age, so mid twenties- pregnant, and away from home. No support network, nobody around that she really knows except her husband, who works nights, and his best friend, who hated her from the start. Living in a single shitty motel room in a town that's right in the firing line of the Legion, with super mutants and ghouls also threatening the other flank. I think complaining and being cranky and irritable is pretty understandable in her shoes. I for one would certainly not be dedicating much energy to pleasantries and platitudes, nor to humouring Jeannie May's ego.

I like to think that she had a bit of old world blues going on- that she knew that life could be easier, full of good times, if only things were different. That she just wanted the best for herself, her husband, and her child. Maybe she chased it in ways that ruffled some feathers, but I gotta be honest and say that I respect her hardcore nonetheless. I love a woman who knows what she wants and is clear and direct about it. And I love a woman who is unapologetic about pushing for a better life for herself and her family.
