The old man doesn’t understand
The old man, who is carnal walks in darkness and doesn’t understand God and doesn’t understand Jesus’ words and His commandments, since they are foolishness to him and go against the words of the world.
The old man is not willing to change and adjust to the will of God, but he expects God to understand him as he is and that God adjusts and changes His will to him and accepts and approves his carnal feelings, emotions, and lusts, and desires instead of condemning them.
The old man expects God to sympathize with him, because he thinks that he is important. But God will make no exceptions for anyone and will not accept any excuse.
When the time of grace is over and the doors of His Kingdom will be closed, God will judge everyone righteously by His Word according to His righteous nature, which He revealed by and in His Word.
~ Salt of the Earth
The yoke of Jesus is easy and His burden is light for the new man
When you were born again you became a new creation. Your flesh died in Christ whereby you were redeemed from the power of the kingdom of darkness and from the law of sin and death, which reigns in the flesh. You entered the Kingdom of God through the resurrection of your spirit from the dead and you live in Christ under the law of the Spirit of life.
Jesus Christ has delivered you from all bondage of the devil and has given you the power to become a son of God (both male and female) and reign over sin and death and no longer live in the bondage of the devil and the powers of the kingdom of darkness and serve the devil through the obedience of the flesh, which results in sin and iniquity, but rule in Him by the Spirit over the flesh and the spirits of the world.
The new creation is a spiritual man, who is born of God and in whom the Holy Spirit dwells.
The new creation, who has the nature of God and belongs to Him, lives under the yoke with Christ and loves God above all and walks in self-sacrificial love, and therefore loves God and His Word and spend time with Them and keeps the commandments of Jesus.
The new man listens and learns from Jesus and obeys Him. To the spiritual new man the yoke of Jesus is easy and His burden light, because the new man and Jesus are united by the Spirit and are of one Spirit and have the same mission, namely to do the will of God and represent, preach and bring the Kingdom of God on earth, so that many souls will be delivered from the power of sin and death and be saved from hell.
~ Salt of the Earth
To the old carnal man, the yoke of Jesus is hard and His burden is heavy
But to the person, who thinks is born again, but is still carnal and remains carnal and belongs to the world and is controlled and led by the spirits of the world, the yoke of Jesus is hard and unbearable and His burden is heavy.
That’s because the words and commandments of Jesus go against the nature of the old carnal man and his carnal mind and his will.
The old creation is not willing but is rebellious and doesn’t want to submit to Jesus Christ, the Living Word.
The old creation doesn’t want to listen to Jesus and learn from Him, let alone obey His words and apply them in his life.
The old man doesn’t love the Word because the words of God diametrically oppose his will and the lusts and desires of his flesh and call the old man to repentance and the removal of sin.
Because of the fact that many don’t want that, because they love their flesh and the works of the flesh, many stay carnal and walk after the flesh instead of the Spirit.
Instead of changing, they change the words of God so that the words of the Bible fit into their lives and they can stay the way they are without feeling condemned by the Word.
To the old carnal man, the yoke of Jesus is hard and His burden is heavy and impossible to bear because of the selfishness that reigns in the flesh. The flesh and the carnal mind are selfish and are only focused upon himself and to serve the flesh and please himself.
Only the regenerated person, who has become a new creation in Christ and is born of the Spirit and walks in the light is able to submit to Jesus Christ and obey Him and do His will and serve and please Him.
~ Salt of the Earth
Before you became born again you lived all those years under the yoke of the devil. You were joint together and you listened and learned from him and obeyed him and therefore lived after his will.
But by faith in Jesus Christ and regeneration in Him, by the blood of Jesus Christ and the power of God, the yoke of the devil has been broken over your life, which means that the unity between you and the devil has been broken.
You no longer live under the yoke of the devil and you are not a slave of the devil, a slave of sin, anymore. You don't live in the bondage of the world, but you have been set free because you have made a choice to lay down your own life and follow Jesus and take the yoke of Jesus upon you.
~ Salt of the Earth
"Thus far did I come laden with my sin,
Nor could aught ease the grief that I was in,
Till I came hither. What a place is this!
Must here be the beginning of my bliss!
Must here the burden fall from off my back!
Must here the strings that bound it to me crack!
Blest cross! blest sepulchre! blest rather be
The Man that there was put to shame for me!"
~ John Bunyan
THE CROSS
Now I saw in my dream, that the highway up which CHRISTIAN was to go was fenced on either side with a wall; and that wall was called "Salvation".
"In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks." Isaiah 26:1
Up this way, therefore, did burden CHRISTIAN run; but not without great difficulty, because of the load on his back.
He ran thus till he came at a place somewhat ascending; and upon that place stood a Cross, and a little below, in the bottom, a sepulcher. So I saw in my dream, that just as CHRISTIAN came up to the cross, his burden loosed from off his shoulders, and fell from off his back, and began to tumble; and so continued to do till it came to the mouth of the sepulcher, where it fell in, and I saw it no more.
Then was CHRISTIAN glad and lightsome, and said, with a merry heart, "He hath given me rest by his sorrow, And life by his death."
Then he stood still awhile to look and wonder; for it was very surprising to him, that the sight of the cross should thus ease him of his burden. He looked, therefore, and looked again, even till the springs that were in his head sent the waters down his cheeks.
~ John Bunyan, Pilgrim's Progress
Corrie Ten Boom wisely wrote these words.
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.”
That strength is found in Jesus. He is your strength and your hope. Keep your eyes on Jesus and the words of a classic old church hymn will begin to ring true in your heart.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.
~ Dave Burchett
