Guide to Release
Single Effect: Damage Up [15%] & Fog on Attack [15%] (3 Turns)
MLB Effect: Damage Up [20%] & Fog on Attack [20%] (3 Turns)
Effect Definitions:
Damage Increase will increase the damage done by the equipped character’s attacks, and its effect takes place after the buffs and debuffs are calculated. Damage Increase and Damage Up are essentially the same effect, however Damage Up has a 100% cap while Damage Increase doesn’t.
Fog is a Status Ailment that will cause the afflicted target to have a 25% chance to miss their attacks. Fog chance can stack. .
TLDR: “Guide to Release” is offensively mediocre for a Limited memoria. It offers a terrible Status Ailment with a low chance on attack and a very low percentage for Damage Up. It’s not Enhancement Fodder, but it is kind of disappointing to get. This memoria is exclusive to the gacha for Holy Mami. Please note that this memoria will be under the tag for “The Crescent Moon Manor’s Merry Christmas” for simplicity’s sake.
Review: “Guide to Release” would probably be acceptable if it was unlimited, but as a Limited memoria it has some issues-- amusingly, this makes it similar to the limited memoria “Like This, For Now.” Overall, it can be described as lackluster.
This is due to a few things:
20% Damage Up is low, especially when compared to Damage Increase memoria (note that both effects arguably do the same thing).
Fog is probably the worst Status Ailment in the game (fight me).
Fog chance at 20% feels terrible for a limited memoria.
Let’s address each one in order. You can compare “Guide to Release” to other memoria, such as:
(Limited 4*) “More than an Acquaintance, Less than a Friend” Damage Increase [30%] & Anti-Provoke [65%]
(4*) “Ryouko and Sakuya: Moment of Perfection” Damage Increase [30%] & Regenerate HP [5%]
(Limited 4*) “I'll Continue to Shoulder the Burden” Damage Increase [25%] & Blast Damage Up [30%]
(4*) “Kindness Can Be Made” Damage Increase [25%] & Damage Cut [20%]
(4*) “My Bible” Damage Increase [25%] & Anti-Curse [100%]
(Limited 4*) “Successful Venue Crossover” Damage Increase [20%] & Anti-Charm [100%] & Attack Up [10%]
(Limited 4*) “Tonight We Shall Have a Banquet” Damage Increase [20%] & MP Gain Up [12.5%]
(Limited 4*) “Waiting for the Moment” Damage Increase [20%] & Accele MP Gain Up [20%]
(Limited 4*) “Ultimate VS Supreme” Damage Up [20%] & Blast Damage Up [20%] & Charged Attack Damage Up [12.5%]
(Limited 4*) “Difficult! Image Training” Damage Up [25%] & Critical Hit [25%](Limited 4*)
“Hey, Smile” Damage Up [25%] & Status Ailment Resistance Up [30%](Limited 4*)
“About to Leave in Haregi” Damage Up [25%] & Dazzle on Attack [20%] (1 Turn)
Note that there are three unlimited memoria that offer better Damage Increase/Up percentages than the limited and expensive to max awaken “Guide to Release.” Now, several memoria on this above list are limited and only offer 20% Damage Increase, but several of these can be justified due to how powerful and good their second effect is. “Guide to Release” doesn’t have that justification.
Here’s the issue: Fog is bad. It can have its uses, but it’s a Tier One Status Ailment and that coupled with its lower miss rate makes it feel (almost) useless.
To help clarify, Tier One Status Ailments (Fog, Poison, Charm) can only offer one effect. Tier Two (Burn, Darkness, Stun) will offer that effect and also make the afflicted enemy take increased damage from their weak element. Tier Three (Curse, Dazzle, Bind) will do all of that and make the enemy unable to regenerate HP.
This means that Fog won’t increase your damage unless your attackers have Addict Killer (increased damage done against Status Ailments). Additionally, unlike Poison or Charm, it’s possible that the Ailment won’t do anything-- sure, Poison and Charm are pretty weak, but at least when the effect actually afflicts the target you’ll know that the effect will work. Here you need to hope the target is afflicted with Fog and then further hope that the target will miss with that slim 25% chance.
That makes Fog pretty poor when you want to protect a team.
The one positive of this memoria is that when Fog does land, it’ll stay on that target for three turns. This means you can actually take advantage of that, especially with Addict Killer. Notably, Addict Killer will only take effect on an already afflicted target, and not one that afflicts the target in the same attack that applies it. For some memoria whose Status Ailments only last for one turn, that means you could have the Ailment land on Attack three but never give you any potential damage bonus.
The thing is... Fog chance at 20% feels low for a effect that is one: terrible and two: limited. In fact, the best way to illustrate this would be to compare it to another memoria:
(2*) “His Place Is Far Away...” Fog on Attack [20%] (3 Turns)
You don’t need to go to all the trouble of rolling for this memoria and spending lots of Magia Stones (or real money) to get it max awakened. In fact, if you only have a single copy, then “His Place Is Far Away” will have a much better chance at inflicing Fog than “Guide to Release” could.
The last thing to consider would be one final memoria comparison:
(4*) “To My Promising Friends” Damage Up [20%] & Skill Seal on Attack [25%] (1 Turn)
This offers the same amount of Damage Up and a higher Skill Seal percentage (at the cost of lasting for one turn). In some cases, Skill Seal will be a better way of protecting your unit than that useless Fog chance.
So overall? Don’t get rid of this memoria if you have it or anything. It’s not bad like an “Enhancement Fodder” memoria would be considered, but bad as in “why would anyone roll for this limited memoria” would be.
You can use this on Support but I might might resent you for it.
