Mona was livid and it was so hot.
"What do you mean you are all booked, I have a reservation!"
The human in charge of the restaurant entrance looked at her and then at GQ as if he were some dirty sock she didn't want to pick up. He even dressed up and all. Eugene helped him pick up this shirt.
"Well you see..." the human said, turning back to Mona. "This is a very renouned restaurant, we can't let just anyone in."
Mona got even angrier, but surprisingly for GQ who had seen her beat the shit out of an orc twice her size, she remained calm.
"Oh... I see what this is about. You don't want my business because he's with me, right? Okay..." She turned and made to leave, then turned back again to the girl. "Listen here, I know your kind, you think you're so superior because you work in the elf district, well let me tell you something. My money and his money are worth the same as theirs, and I'm going to swing back here tomorrow with my lawyer and your supervisor better be here. I'm going to make you all pay for this, because this is discrimination. Come on, Gary, let's find a much better place."
Mona took GQ's arm and left the place, they walked away and when they were at a reasonable distance, she stopped and made an angry noise and stomped her little pink shoes on the groud.
"I can't believe they did this! Who the fuck does she think she is?! I had a reservation, we were going to pay to be there, this is fucking unbelievable!"
GQ was a little impressed at her colorful language, they'd been hanging out but this was their first date (an actual one, planned out and all) and Mona had been looking forward to it and now she was angry over... something that had happened to him many times before.
"Mona, beautiful, calm down. I'm used to this."
"You shouldn't have to be! You're a person too! You deserve the same respect any other person gets for the fact they are people!"
"But I don't, big deal, I'm okay with it by now."
Mona pouted, all fight was leaving her little body and only sadness and disappointment at people remained.
"Come on, I know a really good place. It isn't fancy at all, but we'll still have our date, okay?"
He held her gently, a pair of elf girls walking elegant dogs looked at them and then turned to each other and giggled, Mona was about to detach herself from him and fight them but GQ stoped her.
"Save that fight for later, pretty, let's go get our dinner. Besides, you don't know why they laughed, maybe they think we look cute together."
They walked hand in hand. Reaching a mall with a taxi stop. They took a cab that left them just outside GQ's neighborhood. Mona had not called Arthur to pick her up, she said she'd call him later.
There were few people on the streets when they got off the taxi, GQ walked next to her, still holding her hand. A few houses away, some orcs sat outside a porch drinking beers. GQ waved at them as they passed by, and an orc girl complained that "the elves always snatch the cute ones". Mona had to stiffle a giggle at that.
A few blocks away, there was a food cart against a big wall with a Jirak mural. Mona admired it for a minute, as GQ said hello to an orc named Saul who looked tired of the world itself.
There were some stools and a tall orc was cooking something that smelled delicious. Mona took GQ's arm and looked curiously as he pulled up a stool for her to sit. There was another orc couple next to them who eyed them for a minute and then went back to eating.
"It's nalisniki, kind of like a pancake with filling. Anything you want to put on it, you can. There's also vareniki and deruny."
"What is this?" She asked.
GQ pointed at some soft looking steamy dumplings in a wood pail and a bunch of fried pancake like things, and then asked her what she'd like.
A food cart. GQ brought her to a food cart.
Mona realized she didn't care and it was much better than being with stuck up people in a fancy restaurant. She looked at the food for a moment and then pointed at the dumplings.
"What's in these?" She asked, GQ asked the cook what the vareniki had, and he answered in a language Mona had heard before at the Feast of Jirak.
"So those over there are filled with chicken and veggies and these are filled with sweet potato and those are filled with banana and nut cream."
"What? Really? So they're like sweet empanadas?"
The orc woman next to them giggled, then turned to her.
"There ain't nothing like this, sweet girl, try and you'll see."
Mona ordered some of the dumplings, and all the people around looked in wonder as the elf took a tentative first bite. Even the cook was a little tense. After that first bite, Mona made a little noise of happiness and then promptly smacked GQ's arm.
"This is so good! You've been hiding this from me how dare you?"
GQ was so excited he made her try everything, the orc woman commented he was going to get the poor girl fat.
They picked all of the things they had ordered and went to a nearby park where they used GQ's jacket as a picnic blanket. They talked and laughed at an orc who was walking at least twelve dogs and had a shirt that said "Fur Dad".
By the time they were done, the sky was turning pink. The sun was setting and it was time for Mona to go home.
Arthur picked her up and looked at GQ like he wanted to punch him but his job was much more important. Before she left, Mona thanked him.
"It was supposed to be a fancy date, you even dressed up and all. I'm sorry people are mean to you." She said with a pout.
"Hey, we saved it, didn't we? We still had a nice date."
"No, you saved it." Mona held on to his sleeve, tip toed and left a chaste kiss on his tusk. "Thank you, Gary. It was a great date."
She got on the car and GQ watched it drive away until it was out of sight, then walked home, smiling like an idiot the whole way there.

"We picked you a nice shirt!" Eugene wailed.
"I let you borrow my good lotion." Mikey said.
"AND YOU TOOK HER TO THE FOOD STAND AROUND THE CORNER ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?!"
"Eugene, think about your stomach ulcer, dude, chill." Nacho said, not even looking up from his phone.
"At least she liked it, right?" Mikey asked, as Eugene tried to breathe and calm his nerves.
"She did, she was very happy."
"But I picked you a nice shirt..." Eugene pouted, Nacho sighed dramatically.
