Day 20 #100daysofkylewatercolorbrushes — Today I experimented with one of the digital watercolor brushes in Adobe Sketch which is called “ Kyle’s Real Watercolor - Big Round “ 131 pixels ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Digital Watercolor Brush Review ———————————————- This is a bit of an odd brush . I wanted to like it , I wanted it to play nicely — yet I struggled to get it to work with me ... hmmm ... To start off with a light pressure on the Ipadpro using the Apple Pencil it gives what I would call a papery texture — like semi transparent Japanese washinpaper — soft , wispy , translucent in places with patches of darker colors elsewhere . When even a slight touch of more pressure is applied on the same stroke it smoothed out completely leaving a dense , smooth almost solid patch - entirely different from the soft layer — ah — odd feeling . If the first stroke has quite a lot of pressure then the smooth solid look appears instantly , but it does not blend out as nicely as some of the other brushes available . Even more odd to me , or let’s say counterintuitive , is the application of one medium hard pressed brushstroke in one color — then with the Applle Pencil lifted a second , more pressured stroke is applied — but instead of the expected darkening a lightening of the color happens even though the tone of the color itself Iintensifies — so as you can see on the round circle on the left grey example — it creates a consecutive highlighting effect ... So the verdict — I do like the effect achieved with a very light touch — that wispy papery texture , that Incouls imagine fun to use to imitate a cut paper collage type effect — however any layering , smudging or shadowing does not come easy to me with this brush — one to bear in mind for a specific effect but I can imagine lots of use for me creatively onward until next time ...
