Folktale Week, day 2 - Ritual
Oto dar jelenia, o który prosiłaś.
~ The secret was a deep magic that opened a window in her mind far more wonderful and terrible than she had ever imagined possible. ~ This was created for “Folk Tale Week” 2019. The day 2 prompt is “secret”. I am behind in posting but catching up on my art postings. (Originally, I had posted an old painting for day 2 but this was my first concept for the prompt.) The art was inspired by the Greek mythology story of Pandora’s Box holding the world’s secrets. Once a secret escapes it cannot be contained. The box had many burdens but also contained hope. I enjoy the idea of the mystery of the secret that makes you wonder what it could be but the riddle’s answer is discovering depths and exploring boundaries of your own imagination. Art was created using watercolor pencils on waterboard board. After the initial drawing, the image was painted to soften the pencil. Further color washes were applied with watercolor to add more depth. Secret: Yes, somewhere in the world a village misses its idiot. When I posted my #home painting for day 1, a few people mentioned that I should have used an old painting of the village idiot. Since I first painted it, I have been more humble in realizing we all make accidental left turns when the group around you knows to turn right. In thinking about what it means to me now on being a “village idiot” is about narcissism and self-involvement so you are blinded to how your actions harmfully impact others. The art was made using gouache on watercolor paper.
