I do feel like the idw original characters like tangle whisper dr starline etc are, in the context of the comics, a bit more interesting that the actual main series sonic characters as they're presented in there. I feel like you see more of the passion of the creative team in those characters than you see in sonic or tails. Part of it obviously is for meta reasons--i don't buy that anythings seriously gonna happen to shadow or Eggman cause sonic team needs them for future videogames, but can tangle beat mimic on her own? There's some suspense there; I wanna see what happens! It just makes for a stronger story imo
