I know the point of your blog is for learning our language. But I was wondering, my english friends (as I live in England) keep making fun of me and call me Hitler, which is extremely offensive. And I don't know what to do? Is it my accent or? :(
Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear that! :< But tbh, if they're your friends, they shouldn't be offensive towards you.
All I would say is, talk to them and tell them it makes you uncomfortable if they make Nazi-references about you. You weren't around when it happened and your German heritage doesn't make you a Nazi.
It could be, that they find your accent funny, because many people associate a German accent with villians, so this could be it.
Still, this doesn't make it better. Make it clear, that they hurt you with stuff like that. If they don't listen, it might be time to look for new friends, as bad as it sounds.
Some people might say, just retort with offensive stuff about them, but this only works if you know you can trust these people and seeing that you're in a minority in your group I wouldn't risk it.
I'm sorry that I can't really talk frome experience, but I'm lucky enough that I never met people who were prejudiced against me for being German.
