Black Swan (2010) dir. Darren Aronofsky
19 in my quest to watch 365 movies in 2020: Way Down East, 1935, starring Rochelle Hudson (again) and Henry Fonda. A film that's too sweet and optimistic for its brilliance to be easily noticed. Quality 10/10 Entertainment 9/10. I'm not 100% certain, but this film may actually be perfect. The acting, writing, and direction are all as good as could be; and what might have been an intellectually unsatisfying story is given more than enough depth by the twin threads of clever, subtle symbolism which wind throughout (the frozen river, and the ever present alcohol ); the Great DWG, upon whose earlier film this is based, deserves much of the credit, of course. I declare Way Down East to be, in my opinion, a MASTERPIECE!
17 in my quest to watch 365 movies in 2020: Curly Top, 1935, starring Shirley Temple. Quality 7/10 Entertainment 4/10. Watching this film, it's hard to become at all immersed, because one is constantly being amazed anew by the magnitude of Ms Temple's talent. That being said, this is an utterly idiotic film, especially when compared to Pickfords original (which is well worth watching). Lynn Bari also makes an, uncredited, appearance, though I didn't spot her.

The First Trailer For 'Godzilla'
Director: Gareth Edwards Cast: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe and Juliette Binoche.
Release Date: May 16th, 2014
I was so happy to hear that Gareth Edwards would be directing the newest incarnation of 'Godzilla'. His film 'Monsters' was a great demo reel for him being able to give an interesting new take on the giant monster genre. It's a film I urge people to check out if this new 'Godzilla' film looks appealing. I'm still not sure of North American audiences want an updated 'Godzilla' film, or even a 'Godzilla' film at all, but this looks impressive. It's nice to see a Godzilla film on a much larger scale than the 90's film. The opening sequence in the trailer with troops halo-jumping into a devastated San Francisco and Godzilla emerging from the smoke is such a cool shot. There is also a rumor that there will be other monsters in this film, which I'm down for. 'Godzilla' might just end up being a decent summer-blockbuster after all.
