MUHC Blocks Food Donations and Order Deliveries to Reach Its Healthcare Workers
(Image: postcardtrip / Pixabay) To help control the spread of COVID-19, the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) will not allow food deliveries throughout its various sites, "whether it is donations or food purchases." A memo titled "Food Delivery at the MUHC" was issued Friday by the MUHC Emergency Measures Coordination Centre (EMCC). The memo states that security guards will no longer allow food delivery people into the hospital's localities. "Consequently, food deliveries are not permitted within the various MUHC sites. The security service cannot allow food delivery people to enter our hospitals, whether it is donations or food purchases," declared the EMCC memo. The MUHC's latest policy will prevent the free meals donated by the cities food establishments as a sign of gratitude to the cities healthcare workers to reach the employees. Despite the memo from EMCC, security guards are also preventing staff from collecting the food from the delivery person and bringing it back into the site. “It doesn’t make any sense,” said one Neuro employee, “We bring food from home and other food all the time so what the hell??" "Instead of prohibiting food deliveries, which can be of comfort to the exhausted employee, why not specify a designated dining area with appropriate precautions, allowing the worker can collect their food order from the delivery person outside the establishments," suggested an MGH patient attendant.
