» A brow quirked, although he wasn’t at all surprised by the detective’s words. The statement coincided with everything the other had been through, but it was a fallacy nonetheless. Wasn’t solitude, in the end, the reason why he lost?

“Do you really believe that, Akechi?” He fixed his gaze on the detective. There was more he wanted to say but it all seemed too soon to say it. He didn’t want to rub salt on the wound.

“No one gets through life solely by themselves.”

It is definitely a statement he lived by, or at least something he used to believe. He sat at his usual spot in Leblanc, eyes fixed on nothing in particular while in thought. His old views were still there in some ways- they’re not something one can easily get past. 

“I believe that it’s true to a certain extent.” He started, taking a moment to think about how to elaborate. “People have to learn how to be able to manage even when they’re alone. Relying on others too much can cause just as great of a downfall. However, despite how I don’t like to admit it,” another pause, “I am being proven wrong these days about these things.”

The words resonated in his head. Never in his life would he have thought that a famous idol would say that to someone as ordinary as him. Then again, he had managed to meet all kinds of people from all walks of life - even his friend group was mishmash of all kinds of characters. So it wasn’t completely astonishing but it still managed to catch him off guard, nonetheless.

“Perhaps we aren’t,” Akira remarked, a small yet content smile forming on his face. “I guess idols aren’t all that different from everyone else, unlike what people tend to think.”

He thought about her words a bit more. It made sense that she was a little guarded, a little screwed up. Lots of people probably hounded her all the time demanding various things and idol life, from what he’s seen, was far from easy. He was happy he wasn’t an idol, but being the leader of the Phantom Thieves was no walk in the park either.

“Do solo artists have it easier than idol group members?” The question was a bit off topic, but he was curious whether or not this were the case. If so, perhaps he’d consider becoming an idol too…

A life without obstacles shouldn’t be called that way to begin with. Life. It was harsh, merciless, mocking. It shaped people in ways that only oneself could resolve with their own ideology of what’s best for them. Hence, it was inevitable that some attempts led to failures.

And failures either strengthened a person or scarred them.

The gravity of such consequences varied according to its given value. Sure, Seo Ah, in her case, decided to stand right under the spotlight instead of seeking a proper refuge within the shadows. Such exposure led to people freely attributing representations of herself. She was, after all, a public figure. 

And public figures were the potential targets of many things, anything in between praises and insults.

“Not quite.” She answered almost in a whisper, letting out a soft sigh afterwards. “Being a group means having the support whenever needed. In my case, I learned to rely mostly on myself-- well, it depends. I do have people to go to when it’s necessary, but it’s not immediate.”

Akira’s lips curled into a playful – almost devilish – smile as he leaned in towards the detective, seemingly about to give him a peck on the cheek. When he was close enough, however, he chomped down on Akechi’s cheek, much like how an agitated cat would bite someone but not hard enough to leave an actual wound. He pulled back and looked the other in the eye.

“Put me down or you’ll be in for something a lot worse than that.”

Goro nearly dropped Akira. In fact, he wishes he did after getting his cheek bitten. He let out a noise of surprise, shock, and disgust when it happened- and oh god he really wishes he let Akira fall to the goddamn floor.

But he didn’t do that- and letting him drop now wouldn’t do either of them any good. So he complied and set the other down- not gently but not strictly leaving it all to gravity either.

“Did you really have to bite me? That was unnecessary!”
