That "closer" relationship with his dad definitely isn't as close as he thinks it is imo. Give it another 6 months to a year and there'll be another bust up between them and hopefully a storyline that explores Ben's mh around all this. Phil's never properly acknowledged, apologised + changed for his son tbh! Just because he's accepted Ben's with a man doesn't mean all the other abusive stuff has been resolved that happened pre-coming out, and I think this conflict is far from over.

i didn’t say the conflict was over ??? by the looks of it the conflict will be back by the end of next week when ben marries callum despite phil being out for his blood lmao but imo that’s just the nature of soaps like families are beefin all the time esp kids w their parents so ofc it was gonna happen again 

but to me it makes perfect sense as to why ben would take what he can get from phil like ??? i used to go into the dynamics of ben and phil a lot in the past and i still maintain that ben has bpd so idk his behaviour just makes sense to me bc he’s always been so desperate for phil’s attention, good or bad, and his approval like that’s the One Thing he wanted most whether he admitted it or not. so yeah phil hasn’t apologised for his past behaviour and is doing the absolute bare minimum for a parent but you gotta understand that to ben that probably feels like the world bc that’s basically all he’s ever wanted.

(potential spoiler alert) that’s why im so excited to see ben essentially pick callum over phil by marrying him even when phil is Fuming over what callum did. i think it’ll be a really interesting shift in phil and ben’s relationship bc i think phil has always known that he has power over ben bc ben’s always put phil’s approval and attention before everything else in his life (i mean look at the keanu stuff!! he chose his dad’s revenge over his own happiness w callum) and this will probably be the first time in his life he’s CHOOSES himself and his own life and happiness by marrying callum against his dad’s wishes. it’ll be a powerful moment for ben n i’m very excited abt it !!!

tldr: i get what you’re saying but i think ben’s relationship w phil is and has always been extremely complicated and will continue to be extremely complicated no matter what, and i think that’s what makes it so compelling tbh !!!
