Nephew 1 is extremely obsessed with snakes, and I was at an indie kids art+toy shop tonight picking up the Christmas presents for him and his brother, and I could not resist getting this finger puppet for him too 😭

#she’s so cute #I was a mess in the toy shop lmao #their presents were a click and collect but I always get lost at their puppet shelves #I love them soooo much #my goal this year for Xmas was to shop local and small business #and I think I’ve successfully done that?#which is SUCH a good feeling #like not just even with presents but I’m doing local butcher fishmonger fruit and veg deli #for cooking #and it is more work #and kiiiind of more expensive (although not as much as I thought it would be)#but gosh speaking to stall and shop owners it’s nice to be reminded it makes a difference #(heads up I’m going away this weekend #I might pop up intermittently but i’m also vacationing for a few days 🥳)#(hence I’m wrapping Christmas pressies right now haha)

5. TV show of the year?

So this one snuck itself in right at the end of the year. After my wife had her surgery last Wednesday, we were on the hunt for something lowkey and fun to watch on Netflix, and we took a chance on Forged in Fire. Which, if you don’t know it, is one of those competitive shows. About bladesmithing! Now, I usually take those kinds of shows with a grain of salt because, aside from GBBO, most of them have a reputation for mean-spirited judges or competitors or both. But no, this one is competitive, but all of the contestants have been really good to each other and taken their losses with a certain amount of grace. And the judges are a goddamn delight. I love all of them, and it’s been an absolute BLAST to watch it. There are somewhere around 30 episodes on Netflix, but iirc it was aired on the History Channel, and there are videos from it on their youtube channel. I IMPLORE you please go check it out.

18. A memorable meal this year?

Again, another late game answer! Christmas dinner, hands down. I tried something with cooking that I’ve never done before, and it turned out so so well! It was quiet with just my wife and I, we ate on my grandma’s fancy Christmas china and drank homemade mulled wine from our goblets. It was just a wonderful time spent together eating good food and feeling really grateful to have each other.
