A meeting of Hair Club is given over to sundry activities involving string and needles, which makes the briefing shiver, as if it’s working hard to retrieve a file.

The briefing finally finds what it was looking for and shows Barnes a succession of ever-larger knitted footwear.

Barnes interrogates the briefing, which cooperates. ... Thanks, briefing. CONFIRM “Jeez, pal,” the briefing throws at them. “It ain’t worth getting worked up for.”

From chapter 40 of The Long Road Begins at Home by Owlet

"You were sad," Barnes says. "Well, yeah, I guess so." He guesses so. "Rogers." "What? Okay! I guess I was pretty off-kilter at first." AT FIRST Mission. How the hell did we get so attached to this dumbass. ROGERS "I don't know what I'd do without you, Buck," the briefing supplies in child-Rogers voice. Yeah, okay, you two. I know, I'm not planning on going anywhere.

In the story, Bucky just recently went on a mission to protect Pepper Potts at a function, cause he’s the scariest guy she knows. In order to not be recognized by any possible HYDRA agents there, Bucky went in disguise, which involved getting a haircut and a shave. Tony was not happy about Terminator being on Pepper-protection duty, so he told the hairstylist to give him Steve Roger’s haircut and his (Tony’s) goatee. XD Poor Bucky looked like a TOOL. (Which worked perfectly, but still.) So his hair hasn’t grown back out yet, but he’s at least going for the scruffy look today.

He’s become friends with Pepper, Natasha and Maria Hill and the three of them bought him a closet full of clothes when they found out he only had TWO t-shirts and as many pants. (Steve thought he had multiples of the same thing, and that’s why he wore the same outfits all the time) They also got him bright green sneakers, because they’re “fun”. He wears them all the time because fun was not a hallmark of the Winter Soldier, but he’d like it to be part of Barnes.

ROGERS Barnes's knees lose 20% of their ability to hold him upright – good thing he's leaning in a casual pose against the car. ROGERS Yes, mission. There he is. ROGERS ROGERS ROGERS I'm glad to see him too.

You guys really liked Mission Imperative flailing his arms about Cat Eleanor, so I took it to its next logical step. He's tugging at Barnes's sleeve and jumping around like a kid at Christmas! XD I kinda wish you could see Mission’s face, he’s gotta have this big dopey grin going on. Bugged-out googly eyes are really hard to convey with those goggles, which is probably why he wears them. Nobody can be scary with googly eyes.

"Back to the goddamn grind, yippee," the briefing gives him, with a sensation of cold, achy feet and gnawing hunger.

Aw. Briefing doesn't want to go on the mission. Sorry, pal. Didn’t really stop to think.

Barnes had a bit of a meltdown putting on the old Winter Soldier gear for a mission It’s one of the few times Briefing supplies him with an audio file of his own voice. So that was hard to illustrate and have it convey that he’s not actually speaking on his own, he’s just replaying a clip of something the Bucky-Person said. Also, I can’t draw pouting on a chibi and this makes me sad and ashamed. :( Forgive my insufficiencies. I AM proud of how I managed to get the Mission and the Briefing to look ephemeral and translucent. No computer touch-up there! It was ALL done manually, the old-fashioned way!

I figured, since owlet’s story takes place in a universe where Age of Ultron never happened, that the newest suit Stark designed for Steve would be the AoU suit, since it comes next in the series as it were. So that’s what he’s got on here.

For Chapter 7 of Owlet’s fic “Team-building Exercises”. Bucky has to play bodyguard for Pepper Potts at a meeting for rich assholes. In order to avoid getting recognized by possible HYDRA agents, he gets a haircut and grows a beard. Because he’s not pleased about it AT ALL, Tony calls ahead and Bucky winds up with Tony’s goatee and Steve’s haircut.

For the last 5 months, I couldn’t picture it at all. The biggest problem is that he looks like Tony in my head. There are subtle differences in their cheek and jaw and lip structures, but none of that gets translated into my squishy chibi doodles. Thankfully MCU Bucky has blue eyes, or this would be a clusterfuck.

Barnes’ ear is very ticklish, which might be why Cat Eleanor goes for it all the time. The Mission Imperative already was wary of Cat Eleanor. This does not help matters.
