Blue sky

I walk. The heat bares down on me. Not oppressive, but warm.

I look up at the sky. Pure blue. 

I for once, feel it again. That stirring of my soul that the sky used to do.

And I once again wish to devote myself to my old life.

To find where the wasteland meets the blue sky.

My Novel Ch1 pt1

A day like any other?

Those were her thoughts as she blankly stared around the room until she found the time. It was o-four hundred hours; still early, however she was awake now. There was still time enough before the sun rose that she could go to the surface before it turned the planet into a cooking wasteland. She let out the small breath she had been holding while collecting her thoughts, then started rummaging around the small room that was her home. After finding something durable enough to weather a brief trip to the surface, she grabbed her kit and went out the door in a post-sleep haze.

She was a salvager, most everyone in the slums were. It was an easy enough job, but carried high risks, and often low rewards. Sure some struck the big one, finding lost technology or rare parts that could be sold to the factories at a good price. However, she had yet to strike it rich as salvager. Rumour was she had found a whole lot of nothing and what she did find usually went straight to the bar.

She stared out towards the horizon, seeing the train that ran from the slum levels all the way to the surface. How they made trains ride vertically on rails was a lost technology, but that’s what her job was for, people learned how to use old lost technology, and some were even able to duplicate it or create crude copies that did the same function. She started to walk in the general direction of the train. She payed little attention to the crowds  of? other people who passed by on the street. She then came to a large gathering around a speaker.

‘oh’ she thought  

‘it must be last night’s sermon’.

The voice on the speaker was covered with a layer of static. It was a kind voice, even through the layer of static; yet it somehow managed to have an over-worked tiredness to it.

‘She should stop pushing herself, maybe have a drink with us’ muttering softly to herself. She made her way through the crowd, and heading in the general direction of the train.

Faith was still around even after the Goddess had vanished. Some people held on with only that. Many simply prayed for her to return, others wanted her to restore the world to its former glory. In the end nobody knows what happened. All the church knew and what everybody else knew, is that she had simply vanished.

National rat day, huh.

Rats are the best, I miss mine. had him for a couple years in gradeschool. he was a science fair project of my friends (how does music affect a rat’s eating habits? whee kiddo science)

His name was Einstein, and he was a respectable sized albino rat. i honestly have no real memories (i may have forgotten 90% of my childhood) but he was a good boy.
