Freezing to the bone, you huddled closer to your daughters. They were so young. Everyday, it killed you to see them go through what they did. Your only wish was that your girls didn’t grow up into the same world you did. Yet at the end of everyday, your hope for that wish grew weaker.
Then, a young man offered you a paper. There lied your hope. The words on the paper read that there was a revolution brewing. There would be a meeting that day for it. Finally, there would be a solid base from which to fight from for freedom.
You turned to look at the man that gave you the pamphlet. You were going to thank him. But your mind went blank when your eyes met his.
He was the most handsome man you’d ever seen. His hair was a mess, and he was as dirty as you were, but his eyes held such bravery. Such kindness.
“Thank you,” you managed to get out, “I’ll be sure to attend the meeting listed here.”
The man was silent for a few more moments. You almost thought he was as lost in your eyes as you were in his.
Finally, he responded, “Good. I’m glad. We need as many people as we can get to help us fight.”
“Yes, we do. I’ll try to help when I can, but I could never do what you do. You and your friends are so brave.”
He smiled, “Ah, but you you have four children. Surely there is no greater feat than than parenthood...And I must say, what a variety of offspring you have.”
“Oh, yes,” you laughed that, so did your girls, “They’re not mine by blood. Over the years, I found that they live the same harsh life as I have. So, I’ve taken them in my own.”
For just a moment, he stared at you and your family in awe. Then, he sincerely admitted, “Well, with that information, it’s assured that you are the bravest person here.”
“You’re too kind,” you critiqued genuinely.
He continued, “And what might the name be of this unassailable soul?”
Almost too flattered to speak, you gave your name.
“Enjolras,” the young man put a name to the eyes you were already falling in love with.
The two of you shook hands.
