Alright, this may not be super popular, but I’m going to discuss my reylo fic, Force of Attraction. I know I’ve been more Obidala/ Obi-Wan focused lately so I haven’t been hi lighting this as much, but Force of Attraction is my first Star Wars fanfic and I’ve been writing it for over four years now. You might actually be able to tell that from reading it, because it definitely got better as I wrote more.
I’m actually going to talk a bit about the last chapter I wrote, which I haven’t actually published yet. I know, you may be thinking: SPOILER ALERT, but it’s not a whole lot that you haven’t seen before. I rewatched the Last Jedi five times to write this chapter. It’s the chapter where they confront Snoke, and I wanted to make it fairly true to the movie so that I could weave my fic back into canon for a brief second before tying it off in a bow. In my head, writing this fic has been like tying a shoe. One lace is canon, and the other is my own work, and tying them together is something I try to do.
Going off of this, I want to say that I actually have been writing the “Force Skype” idea well before Disney came out with TLJ. I came up with that idea back when I was a senior in high school writing my fics in the notes app on my phone during lunch or my AP psychology class or in advisory when I finished my work. The point is, I’ve been playing with that idea well before Disney.
But, this current chapter took me a bit longer to write. Most of you have probably noticed that I’ve been updating Come What May more often than this fic. That’s simply because part of me is still in disbelief that it’s really ending in a couple chapters. It’s been four years off and on because of college, and now quarantine has let me bring this story to an end. It’s bittersweet, but in a way it’s like trying on a shirt one last time when you’re cleaning out your closet before putting it in the donate pile. You have memories with that shirt, but it’s time to put on something new.
At the heart of force of attraction is a love story, like most of star wars. It’s about wanting to do the right thing and be a better person so that you feel worthy of love. It’s about forgiveness, and being willing to help while knowing that you may still get punished. It’s about wanting a life with someone, but also being prepared to let them go if you think you’ll just hold them back, and it’s about the people who will love you no matter what, who will believe in you no matter what. And... it’s also the enemies to lover’s trope at what I hope is it’s finest.
