Very disappointed Mario & Luigi: Dream Team comes with a forced 5.1.0 update as I have been up-to-now able to avoid doing it.
Thankfully, when I switched up to that 32GB miniSD card for the DSTwo, I snagged the latest firmware which is good for 3DS firmware 6.0.0.11x and lower.
Still, I am awaiting the day I can install Homebrew and disable the fucking firmware bullshit like I did with the Wii.
The console firmware updates are, insofar as I've been able to tell, never actually useful for anything. They don't enhance games in the least and are really just a way of Nintendo attempting to kill the flashcarts.
Sadly, if Nintendo would just realize that this is only hurting them and not us, we'd all be much happier. Homebrew was like the only thing that kept my Wii alive for the longest time, being able to play anything from GBA roms to SNES games with translation patches and more!
That extra large card for my DSTwo means I can effectively put all the DS games I own onto a single cartridge and never have to worry about misplacing them ever again. It's like.. incredibly amazing. I still enjoy having my physical copies, but no longer having to carry them all around is wonderful.
And in no way am I giving that ability up. If the DSTwo couldn't handle 5.1, I was actually heavily considering just returning the 3DS game. I'll take convenience over inconvenience any day.
